Summary: GOOD BUT NOT PERFECT
Comment: MY SON GOT THIS CARD IN 2002 WITH HIS PLAYSTATION HE WAS
NINE AT THE TIME. HE HAS HAD NO PROBLEM SAVING ANY GAMES.
HE HAS NO OTHER PS2 MEMORY CARD THE ONLY PROBLEM HE HAS WITH IT IS THAT YOU HAVE TO LOAD THE CD FIRST.

Summary: Waste of Money-and Time!!
Comment: PS2 cards seem to be something hard to come by around here-they sell out as soon as they come in, so when I found this 16mb card---I was thrilled---I even drove an hour to get it.----And now the rest of the story. It worked with my NBA live 2002--sweet, but then I tried GTA3, no good, 007 Agent under fire--no card present. The stinking thing won't work with any of my games at all---I went back to retrieve my nba games---and you got it, no card in the slot. It is a pain to have to load the software to begin with before being able to play your game---but that wouldn't be bad at all if the thing actually worked. Don't buy this card--it is a waste of money and time. I have emailed tech support---but I have a feeling, from what I have already read, things look grim.

Summary: Bad Memories
Comment: Recently I gave in and got myself a PS2, but I was a little daunted at the cost of the basic PS2 memory card. So when I saw Datel's 'Mega Memory 16' card. 16 meg rather than 8, for only a couple of quid more. Sure, it looked like you needed to perform a disk boot on it, but for what was on offer......

So, I thought, what the heck. I shelled out for the card and took it home, eager to get a proper game of 'Code Veronica' in.

Oh was I disappointed.

I took the card home, read through the instructions and gave it a go. The disk booted up ok, but it wouldn't acknowledge the presence of the card in the slot. I switched off, replaced it and tried again. Still no joy. The machine seemed to easily recognise normal Playstation cards, so I figured my machine was fine. After various attempts with no further joy I surmised that the card was broken, and decided to take it back.

So, Sunday morning the card returns to the shop and I get it replaced. That night I try again, same problem, the machine doesn't even acknowledge the card. Slightly frustrated at this point I sent an email to Datel's (The manufacturer) support department asking for pointers.

Well, By wednesday, and several more failed attempts to get the card working with no response from Datel I try again. The card goes back, is replaced again and I try again. Same problem, the software won't acknowledge the presence of the card.

I email Datel again That night and by Thursday night there was still no repsonse, so this time the card went back and stayed back.

Needless to say, I wasn't impressed with the performance of the card. I read in another Opinion on here that the card does work if you save it to a regular PS2 memory card first. however I read the manual cover to cover on several occasions, and nowhere on the packaging or the manual does it mention this requirement.

As it stands I still haven't had a reply from Datel, so I guess I'll never see one of these little puppies work.

So, my review, errr.....

The Card is a pleasing semi-translucent blue in colour, with some attractive aesthtic curves to it's construction. It feels solid and rests nicely in the memory card port. The supporting software comes on an attractive blue disk and loads within a reasonable amount of time. The interface looked pretty, but as it never acknowledged the card, I was unable to truly establish how user-friendly it was. The manual is concise, and it's FAQs described absolutely none of the problems I encountered.

... this seemed to be a reasonably priced device, and I certainly got my value for money from it, well, when I took it back and exchanged it for two games in the special offer the shop was running at the time.

However if you want to save yourself the time, just go straight for the games, or a normal memory card. I guess that some people have had it working, but I've pretty much only come across reports of failure in one form or another.

I now have an official card, which works just fine, and a new hobby.

Trying to get a response from Datel.

Summary: Do not buy the Mega Memory 16MB
Comment: I agree with most of the other reviewers.
I bought a 16MB card on the package promise of extra space and easy use.
I was frustrated at having to use a boot disc and absolutely annoyed that having had the memory card for 10 days I have not been able to get a single one of my games to recognise it.

Editorial Reviews:

The Mega Memory 16 Megabytes Memory Card is double the size of the official PS2 memory card, and comes with CD-based compression software that allows you to squash even more on to one card--up to 80 MB of data on this 16 MB card, and up to 40 MB on the standard 8 MB card, according to the manufacturer. The software also allows you to use any 100 MB USB Zip drive to store game data, so you can transfer game data to your PC and swap it online.

There is a catch, of course: if you want to save a game onto this memory card you have to load the aforementioned software CD first and then start the game from the Mega Memory menu, a process which uses up a minute or so of your precious gaming time. It's a fiddle, but if you're ever likely to have more than 8 MB of game saves it's worth it for the money you'll save by not having to buy extra memory cards. --Rikki Price
