Summary: Make sure you have the right scart cable
Comment: I recently bought this product and it works fine. However, at first I had problems with just getting a b/w picture. I initially assumed that my TV was not NTSC compatible (most UK bought TVs are nowadays) but after a bit of self-education via the web, realised that it was the scart lead - You must use a true RGB scart lead and not the composite scart lead that comes with the PS2 (with mine anyway). These are readily available from £5 - £15 but you have to be careful as I've seen complaints that some of the cheaper ones are not really RGB. - Hope that's helpful

Summary: Plays any DVD
Comment: I bought this product a year back but I can say that it does what it is supposed to do.
I have played region 1 DVDs on European PS2 using this. The only drawback is that everytime the console is switched off, I have to repeat the steps of loading the software.

Summary: Useless
Comment: Doesn't work with the new slimline model and it should say so. Totally worthless, might as well buy a multi region DVD player because it can't change your PS2

Summary: Oh dear
Comment: I Purchased this back in December for my PS2, and yes, it works just like it's supposed too. It allows you to play Any region DVD on your PS2. My version didn't come with any Memory card attachment, or dongle, but once i ran it, it installed some settings on my memory card, and away it went.

However, i did notice that i needed to use the DVD region X DVD to watch Region 2 DVD's on my playstation. Region 2 is the home region for the PS2, and i was quite miffed that i had to stand there and swap disks for every DVD i wanted to watch. Putting a Region 2 DVD into the PS2 would enable me to play the DVD, but it would be shown in green screen.

After 2 months of purchasing the Disk, my PS2 would no longer read the DVD Region X disk. It would keep spinning the disk (making a horrible noise) for 5 minutes before saying it could no longer read the disk.

Now, this wouldn't be a problem if i could still watch R2 DVD's on my playstation, but i cant because the DVD's are showin in green screen.

After contacting the manufacturer, they told me to load the disk and change the "codes"... obviously not reading my email properly when i said i couldn't load the disk!

So basically, my PS2 is now rendered useless when it comes to playing DVD's. There is no problem with playing games. DVD's run fine, yet they green screen!

Technical support offered no help either.

Not happy in the slightest!

Editorial Reviews:

If you want to take better advantage of the PS2's DVD capabilities then the DVD Region X is a great device that allows you to "convert" your console into a multi-region player. The pack is basically a software disc which you insert into your machine; it displays a menu on your screen with all the regions (1 to 6) and lets you choose which zone the film you want to play belongs to. You then remove the disk and insert your DVD (using your controller and PS2 browser to select the film) and you'll have multi-region playback from your humble games machine.

A side issue is that the disk also solves the "green screen" problem caused by Sony's modifying the RGB signal to better accommodate video games--which typically results in DVDs having a rather sickly tint. The device even allows you to play the increased security coded disks (Regional Coding Enhancement) which manage to foil most chipped DVD players.

Older versions of this product included a "key" which fit into one of the memory card slots, but because Datel discovered there was a potential for piracy, with this version you just get the disc and have to provide your own dedicated and formatted memory card. It's best to use a new one as when it's formatted it will erase any saved game data. Also, gamers owning early PlayStation 2s may find that the software does not work with their machine.

Despite this, the DVD Region X is definitely the easiest and most cost-effective way of playing DVDs from any region, and the savings you make and kudos you get from having seen films on DVD before they've been released in the UK is more than worth the cost of an extra memory card. --Kristen Bowditch
