Summary: Linux Ubuntu so good they named it twice. Well, once actually.
Comment: I have just received this printer and set it up to run on three computers.
Desktop 1 running Linux Ubuntu `Feisty' recognized it, sorted the best driver and, whayhay, off it went. In under five minutes. The other Desktop, an AMD Athlon64 3000 based machine running XP Pro, creaked about like a pensioner that had forgotten their walking stick. It took some registry cleaning and ducking & diving, but after about 40 minutes and three reboots it got the hang of it and now runs really rather nicely, but it's this fiddly installation that cost it a star. My laptop, a T30 Thinkpad running Linux Debian `Etch' took about 20 minutes. Using apt-get installed the best driver very quickly but it still isn't completely happy and prints noticably slower than the other two computers. I will need to do a little more configuring to get it just right. On the whole reasonably easy to set up and run, when setup this is a fast printer (Apart from the aforementioned laptop slowness). As other people have noted it does make a bit of roller noise when it's operating, but not an unreasonable amount and at the price it's well worth it.

Summary: Not for mac, not good quality
Comment: It says this computer is intel compatible... this is strectching the truth a lot, it is but only if you use the generic driver which gives a VERY SLOW print rate. This is blatant over selling, commonly referred to as a rip off. It took customer service over an hour (at 8p per minute) to tell me that it doesn't work with the supplied driver and that you use the ESP one, which is "kind of" compatible.

Also the ink got very patchy with whole chunks missing after only 600 pages of type.

I wouldn't recommend this printer at all. If you have an intel mac, don't get it.

Worst printer I have ever had.

:(

Summary: Great printer but not yet Vista compatible.
Comment: I bought this printer 10 months ago and have to say I have been very happy with it.

The speed is great and the additional space in the loading paper is great. Just wish HP would sort these Vista drivers out. It's been almost a year now and their release for this model is still pending :(

Summary: Good and fairly cheap
Comment: I've had this for nearly two years. Its been very reliable and the quality is fine. It hasn't jammed that I remember and the manual duplexing is useful. It is a massive step forward on the ink jets I used to use.

If the paper isn't completely dry - i.e. drying washing on the radiators, it gives off a fair bit of steam, which wasn't smoke. The toner is expensive but lasts long enough for me - 2000 sheets or so.

Its got an incredibly annoying habit of printing a test page every now and then, seemingly randomly and not many, but if you've just loaded expensive letter paper and it prints a test page on it and then a letter on the every day cheap stuff, you might go looking for a hammer!

If it breaks/gets hammered I will probably buy another one the same.

Summary: Good value b&w laser printer - better than expected
Comment: I took delivery of this printer three days ago. Setting it up for use with my iMac was very straightforward - as was sharing it with PC's on the home/office network with Bonjour. It's very quick to churn out the pages - certainly much faster than the HP colour inkjet - and hopefully more economical per page. One thing though - and this has been mentioned earlier - check your paper media. If like me you use recycled paper and for whatever reason it has a high moisture content, the paper will 'smoke' as it leaves the printer and the paper will curl a bit - making it difficult to comb-bind. I'm having to experiment with paper types - maybe an HP recycled product will do the trick. I could also move to a less damp house...
