Summary: My favorite console of all time.
Comment: Next to the xbox 360, this console stands tall in reliability. Thought Amazon sent me a book on it's arrival but gratefully delivered a machine that eliminates all the old faults with previous versions.

If PS3 emulation remains poorly supported and PS3 library doesn't turn heads, I'll be back at Amazon for another few PS2's Should the PS2 discontinue.
No crashes, red lights of death freezes or background hoover suction. Hoo raah !

Always a pleasure to shop through Amazon.

Summary: Wow!
Comment: Yep, one of the most horrid consoles return...but wait for it....in silver paintwork. Let's all jump up and cry in delight...not.

I feel I have rated it slightly unfairly compared to that of the XBOX 360 but I can't have 1.1 so the rating has been down-graded to that of the XBOX 360...sorry.

Pads are slightly more comfortable than the XBOX but again, it's the list of dull, pointless games that Sony so proudly talk about. 99% of them are tea coasters with no point in existing. I would imagine that every games company in the world look at the PS2 for releasing pointless, tacky games for making money out of silly gamers who buy this trash.

Like I said, XBOX is absolute rubbish. Sony is little better but they need a shed load of improvement.

Please steer clear...

Summary: A Little Miracle
Comment: I hae just bought this having sold my x box, whilst their will always be comparisons about grpahics etc I never got on very well with the X Box and found the games dull and sometimes hard going. Having seen the huge range of games available for the PS2 and the fact my library hires them I bought this instead. It is tiny, lovely to look at and does exactly what it says. Set up is simple. Games run without problems, there is a huge selection, you can watch DVD's and CDs. Sure there are some grpahical differences but there is really not that much in it. For some other reason I find the controls more comfortable and will upgrade to a wireless controller. I am so pleased with this that I will get a PS3 when they finally become available. A great little machine for pure entertainment. Would make a great present.

Summary: Why buy anything else?
Comment: In my books, this has to be one of the best consoles I've used yet. As an upgrade from the original PS2, the difference is amazing and I'm glad I chose this.
Actually, I had a PS2 a few years back, but I've tried all the consoles since then, and nothing compared to the fun I got of the PS2. Luckily, I had my very old PSX tucked away somewhere, so I've been using that. And the great thing about this upgrade is that you not only get the enjoyment out of current PS2 titles, but older PSX games as well. I know, not a new feature, since the original PS2 did this, but it's still valuable, considering there are so many great PSX titles.
If you think the box the console comes in is small, you should see inside. I'll admit, its been packaged very economically - no space wasted, so putting everything back in will be a laugh one day (should the day come!). But I couldnt believe how small the console was - just 9" by 6", and 1" thick! About the size of a short novel, or a bit larger than a DVD case. Theirs fewer vents though - just a couple of slots at the back, and at the front. The controller is improved too - the buttons have a matt surface which are no slip and very comfy, as with the silver plastic. The analog sticks are much better quality too, and the controller actually feels lighter. The only thing I would say is that the lid does feel very flimsy, but I don't intend of giving it a rough time, so I don't worry about it.
Their is no On/Off button at the back like the old PS2, so its just a case of pulling out the thinner AC cord when your not using the console for a long time, or you put it on Standy when your taking a break. Upon switching it on, their are a few software changes, but nothing worth celebrating, unless you get excited of a new "PS2" logo when you switch it on for the first time. Somehow, mine new the time and date without having to set it.. can't explain that yet! You'll need a memory card to save your systems settings by the way.
So what else has changed? Theirs the infa red port built in for the DVD player - no need for the adapter. The disc lid of course - now actually opens without a motor to stop dust being induced. The noise is also significant - its literally silent, which brings me onto a few points which I think some people having cleared up. Firstly, yes, it DOES have a fan built in. As you switch the console on, it wirls around like a laptop to blow away dust, and to test it basically. It's just as well its there though - when it starts to whirl as the console gets hot, it blows out alot of hot air through the vents. Luckily, I've found some small extra fans that can be attatched via the USB port at the front to buy.
As far as entertainment goes, the PS2 is stronger than ever. With a catologue of hundreds of games - both old and new, this is the perfect console. Its portability allows me to simply take it from one room to another (when the antiques roadshow is on...) in minutes, because I bought a seperate AV cable for just a few pound which I leave hooked up to another telly. And I don't think any other console at the moment can provide this portabilty, entertainment value, and money value (games pre-owned for less than £10) apart from the Playstation 2 Slimline, which is by far still going strong!

(P.S - this silver version will attract less dust)
