Summary: Shinco SDP-6820 ........Excellent value for the money.
Comment: This is my first portable player, although I have seen and used others belonging to friends, I can truly say how pleased i am with this particular player. It does everytyhing it says on the box. Picture quality is great in all formats including digital TV.I bought the Shinco freeview add-on(although not cheap)and was supprised at how easy it was to set up. using the given arial it picked up 30 stations, however this only worked in some rooms within the house. Fixing an ordinary portable TV arial solved this problem.
The player is well built with many accessories, remote control,2 pairs of ear phones etc: well designed carry case which lets you included all the extras. The case for viewing in the car is flimsey but adequate(you can always sit with it on your knee).Sound quality is only average and does sound a bit tinney via the in-built speakers, but is loud enough to hear. Using the ear phones gives a much better sound experience though.
You can buy this machine for under £126.00 on line....buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Summary: An expensive and average gadget
Comment: The number of bad points is equal to that of the good.

Bad points. Poor picture quality (picture has lots of visible 'grid' lines. Picture is either 'stretched' or 'squashed' (whichever aspect you choose). Multiple car reader doesn't seem 'safe' to use (when inserting any type of card). Sound is tinny. USB port has a 'protective' rubber hood that looks easy to pull off.

Good points. Multiple card reader. USB port. 2x headphone jacks (great sound). Jog proof (seems to be holding out). Very portable (for the people 'on the go'). Buttons are logically laid out and with a good range of functions. Love the twistable screen.

Durability. Well this is the next test because it doesn't look to be the most solidly built player I've seen.

Summary: Shinco SDP-6820 DVD Player - QUALITY
Comment: After researching portable DVD players, I opted for the Shinco sdp 6820. The sound and picture quality are above anything I could have expected. I have already told a couple of my friends they have to get one. If you are thinking of buying one, then don't look any further. These things are brilliant. However, the first machine I received had a fault on it which Shinco said it was just bad luck, I sent it back and a replacement arrived very quickly, and I could not fault this.

Summary: Shinco? Shonky more like
Comment: My first thoughts on this box which I got from Digital Daffodil was the build quality was cheap - this was borne out once I tried the unit.

- The DVD lid doesn't sit flush with the case - one end is a few mm higher.
- The volume button was really crackly and cut out the audio in certain positions. They obviously use cheap components.
- The TV Out didn't work at all.

Other criticisms
- software is a bit unfriendly.
- There doesn't seem to be any way of it remembering where you were up to if you play an avi/divx file. Didnt try it with a DVD.
- When the unit is in tablet mode, the remote control sensor is on the top of the unit, facing away from you - doh! No usability testing done there!
- Not sure the travel case can be used tied to the back of a car seat or not - it would be useful if it could.

Positive aspects are:
- Small, light
- Has DivX support
- has in car power supply.
- has USB support

I have sent this back for a replacement in the hope it was a one-off which I am still waiting for (10 days later). All in all a less than joyous experience.

Moral: you get what you pay for.

Summary: Great Player, Terrible supplier!
Comment: This is a great item but be aware that this is supplied by Allcam and not by Amazon themselves.

Allcam are a very poor retailer and you should think very carefully about placing an order with them, even through Amazon.

I recently tried to purchase a DVD player from Allcam. Called them up on Thursday and was told the item was in stock and would be shipped immediatly. Placed the order and made note that the item was urgent and needed by Friday if at all possible. Monday night and still no sign of the player or any communication from Allcam. Rang them up on Tues and was told that there had been a problem with my payment (which as they had taken payment on Thurs there clearly hadn't been!) but no one bothered to call or email me. They then told me that they didn't actually have any stock so could not ship the item out anyway. When I told them that I was very unhappy with the dismal service and would be placing a comment on the Amazon website they threatened to get their lawers on to me!

Think carefully about using this supplier - you have been warned.
