Customer Rating: Summary: Read the reviews before buying. This drive is rubbish. Comment: If only I had read the reviews before buying!!!! There should be minus ratings available for such crap!
Western Digital's customer services is a disgrace! Having sent back a hard drive under warranty, and received notification of its arrival by them, Western Digital have, after three months of waiting, still not sent me a replacement hard drive. Contacting their customer services is a real challenge of patience and frustration. Several emails have gone unanswered, attempts to call by telephone result in long and expensive delays in waiting to speak to a human being and not a machine. The drive sent to them in April 2008, remains with them with no correspondence sent to me (now July 2008). Statement: Under no circumstances buy from this company, they are a huge and major supplier, but look elsewhere for your hard drive requirements. Avoid the frustration.
Customer Rating: Summary: If you value your data don't bother . . . Comment: I bought one of these 18 months ago and up untill last month had no problem at all. It was instantly recognised under windows XP and I was using it to store all kinds of documents.
However last month it's operation became a little odd and occasionally on boot up of my PC the drive was not showing up straight away. I became a little concerned and backed up my critical files.
I was right to be concerned as a few days later the drive failed completely and I lost the entire contents. I sent it back to Western Digital using the RMA process as it carried a 2 year guarantee. This cost me almost £10.00 in postage.
I received an email from Western Digital to say that my drive had been received and to allow up to 5 business days for the RMA status to be changed. 16 days later the RMA status is still indicating "Waiting for product"
I have contacted Western Digital twice and have so far been ignored.
In short I recommend you to stay well clear of Western Digital External hard drive products. Unreliable product and terrible support
Customer Rating: Summary: Terrible lifespan Comment: As with many other reviewers for this item, mine has completely died after a mere 17 months. After 15 months I started getting I/O errors. Now it is utterley useless.
Customer Rating: Summary: Bulky, but faithful Comment: I have had the WD MyBook for over a year now and despite it being a bit bulky (and sometimes noisy), it hasn't had any problems so far. One might doubt its performance looking at the average build quality, but it is a decent, fast enough storage solution for home.
Customer Rating: Summary: NEVER AGAIN IN MY LIFE Comment: Same story as most of the reviewers. After 15 months directories got corrupted, i/o device errors, 200GB of data lost. Thanks Western Digital!
NEVER AGAIN IN MY LIFE
