Customer Rating: Summary: its not bad Comment: so i received the item, plugged it in an installed. First thing to mention, if your on vista then the whole setup process is a nightmare. You must first download version 4 of the content disk as v1 is provided inside the box. this was the first hassle with a download of 106mb. Its okay if you on a fast net service like myself, however, so net users ouuuch! Thirdly you must use the right combination of skype v3 and the update driver so that its compatible. Thirdly, every so often the hardware crashes my machine on startup. The device is installed correctly, unfortunately, the drivers out at the moment are extremely buggy.
Ah yes let me also say, the sound quality, ah its okay but thats it. Not excellent, its okay and have noticed a constant hiss on the line.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good phone so far! Comment: Only gripe would be on making SkypeOut calls (to landlines/mobiles) - there is not an option to dial numbers from the phone. Instead you have to first add the number to your Skype contacts on the PC. You can then access your contact list from the phone and dial the number. That's fine for numbers you call regularly, but a bit of a pain for one-off numbers.
Apart from that, the phone seems sturdy and the sound quality fine.
Customer Rating: Summary: Philips VOIP3211 Skype & Cordless Landline Phone Comment: If you are looking for a cordless phone for your home that combines the luxury of sitting at the end of the garden either making a call to your friends and family on the normal landline and, even better, speaking to family and friends overseas via Skype then this is the package for you. . .
MY folks live abroad and combines with this phone and Skype it has brought us closer together. The phone comes with the long life lithium ion rechargeable battery pack so it can recharge when not in use and has a really good battery life. I have used the phone on a 2 hour conversation before and it has still had 3 out of 3 battery icons on the screen. The talk quality is excellent and despite other reviews I feel that the loudspeaker is ample for its purpose. I have a 3 year old and it works fine.
Once connected, which is a simple task, you can walk away from your PC and browse your friends on Skype and simply call them at the end of the garden from Skype.
I have not used any other cordless Skype Phone solutions other than this one but have not felt the need to. I have had this phone for 18 months now and it has been problem free.
I would recommend that it is used with Windows XP. I have found, with Windows VISTA that Skype does tend to hang and not make the call when it should do. With Windows XP It is plain sailing.
I would also recommend the two phone package as One phone downstairs and One phone upstairs is always good. I always leave the phone in the cradle to keep charged up however it is amazing how many times you have to run up stairs to answer the phone. I brought the single phone packageand wished I had brought the second phone. Who knows what Santa will bring me for Christmas.
If you decide to buy this phone to use with Skype, you will not be disappointed.
Regards
Nick Smith
Customer Rating: Summary: Great phone. Very happy Comment: I bought this phone cheap for £30. It was very simple to install. Worked first time. Works fine for landline phone calls. Works fine for Skype calls. Have contact details for Skype friends and landline calls on the phone. Quality of both landline calls and Skype calls fine. No negatives to mention. The only reason it doesn't get a 5 star rating is because you have to have your computer switched on and logged in to use. But I knew that before and have my computer on all the time anyway.
I would recommend this phone to anyone.
Customer Rating: Summary: Please check Skype forums for compatibility before buying! Comment: From the people who have got this phone to work I hear it is great. But please please check Skypes forums before you buy as there as a lot of clitches in its driver and there are lots and lots of reasons why it won't work, especially with a lot of security softwares. so maybe save yourself the headache and messing about with your computers settings and buy a different VOIP phone
