Customer Rating: Summary: Xploder HDTV Player (PS2) Comment: This is great as it allows the ps2 to output resolutions 480p / 576p / 720p and 1080i.
Okay the higher resolutions do shrink the picture but you adjust the picture size on your h.d.t.v. to make the picture big again.
Not all of my games load either on the Xploder HDTV Player but just using the lead that comes with the Xploder HDTV Player has improved the picture quality.
When the Xploder HDTV Player does load my game
the difference in picture quality with the Xploder HDTV Player software is very smooth/sharp without any jagged lines
and I can see a lot more detail in the games now.
I found 720p to be the best resolution for my h.d.t.v. and 720p does
display some great colours.
The difference in picture quality without the Xploder HDTV Player software playing the same game is you get very jagged lines and the detail seems to be missing.
If it was not for the Xploder HDTV Player I would not be playing the PS2 anymore as I have an Xbox360.
This has given my PS2 extended life as I have not played it for 2 years until I found the Xploder HDTV Player.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wouldnt even load... Comment: My son: "The idea itself is good...if it worked. The disc refuses to load, the ps2 then tells me to insert a playstation format disc. And from what Ive heard the improvement of games isn't that great either... I emailed the support team and I have never gotten a reply. Utter rubbish."
Customer Rating: Summary: Utter waste of money - except for the cable itself Comment: If you have a component cable already save yourself the money and don't even think about buying this.
The software doesn't actually scale things properly like you'd expect (as for instance the 360 scales effortlessly) and the disc itself is really poor quality for some reason. My first disc never booted and the replacement disc I got managed to boot once. After that it never loaded up again and support refused to reply to my continued requests.
It should be noted that my PS2 has no issues loading any other cds or dvds.
Customer Rating: Summary: Lower your expectations Comment: I was waiting for this product with a great deal of anticipation, I'd bought a VGA cable for my Xbox 360 to free up the component HD input, bitten my lip a couple of times as the release date slipped, but then it finally arrived.
But , no doubt, you've already realised that those high expectations where serverely dashed once I'd got the PS2 HDTV player working. I guess I'd been so taken by the Xbox 360's crystal images that I'd expected more of the same but that wasn't to be.
Getting the player to work is simple enough, reset your PS2 input to component, put the disc in the tray, select the resolution you want, adjust the screen position, put the game disc in and press start. The game worked perfectly fine but here are the problems.
I have a 32" JVC LCD TV, which doesn't allow me to adjust the aspect ratio from the component input. Changing the resolution with the Xploder software changes the size of the output picture, so, with my TV at least, there are very ugly and very large black borders on all four sides of the picture. There was nothing I could do to make the higher res image (I used 576p) fill the entire screen.
There is no doubt that the picture is crisper and cleaner, but this made for some very unattractive jagged edges.
When you're buying a product that does nothing more than manipulate the screen image, the 2 issues I've mentioned are rather significant. The first issue may not apply to your TV, so take that into consideration before buying. I would suggest waiting for a VGA cable version, as that should fill the screen.
In conclusion I gave it 3 stars as it does do what the manufacturers say, but if I'd had the chance to see it working on my own TV set before buying it I simply wouldn't have bought it. Think about it, if this was so great, why has it taken so far into the PS2's lifespan to hit the market ???
