Summary: Easy and works perfectly!
Comment: I live in an older-style London house with thick walls, and I've always had problems getting wireless reception to the whole house. I bought this as a range extender to solve that problem and I can happily say it works PERFECTLY. It was easy as pie to set up out of the box, I simply turned off the security on my BT Homehub, used the automatic setup button to connect the extender, then placed it where I wanted it. When I turned it back on, it found the signal again, but I did have to use the auto search button once more. I then turned security back on, as long as the password you set on the router and extender match, there is no issue. You will have to have a little more technical know-how to get the security going, but no more than knowing how to change IP addresses (which is all explained in the PDF manual on the disk provided) and following a simple menu. I did this all on a Mac laptop. I initially had problems with WEP security but once I changed it to WPA it was fine and has worked ever since.

Summary: If you have a secure network do not buy this
Comment: I got one of these and spent 3 hours setting it up on virgin broadband - what a bother.

Daftly I got another one and tried to set it up with a SKY ADSL router. After 12 hours I give up completely.

This might work straight forwardly with no security, but with SKY WPA Passphrase - a nightmare.

I am now going to get the Devolo MicroLink dLan Ethernet connections which should work great for PCs.

Summary: Excellent bit of kit. So far!
Comment: I actually bought this by mistake - I really needed a wireless bridge to connect a small wired network upstairs to my wireless router which is in the lounge. However, this little box seems to also work as a bridge, in effect I've done the reverse of what the manual says with regard to the Access Point setup but it is working fine. I'm using it to write this review! Even with this slightly unsupported config I had it up and running in about 20 minutes, it would have been shorter but I messed up the IP configuration on my PC. My network is secured with WPA2 (I have a Sky wireless router which in reality is a rebadge Netgear) and it worked first time. I was running it in Repeater Mode. Make sure you read the manual (the file on the CD, not the paper one in the box) as it covers virtually everything you need to configure with the box.

Summary: Don't expect and easy ride!
Comment: Well first and foremost thanks to Mr AG Crean whose suffering made mine less awful... but did not take away all the pain. It works well - eventually.
I thought that having read all the reviews here all would be straightforward.
Mistake no. 1. I went for a slightly cheaper option (not direct from Amazon) and ended up with a 7130UK rather than a 7132 (not that I knew this at the time). After following all the advice on these pages I eventually resorted to the Belkin helpline who asked all the usual fatuous questions and then tried to blame it all on my router. Eventually I got on to a senior technician who told me the 7130UK only works with a Belkin router (mine is a Netgear). It does not say this on the product literature. That went back.

I now have a 7132. Surprisingly I was able to communicate with the device immediately once it was plugged into my router via the range extender utility. With the 7130 I had to muck around for ages to change the IP address so that it was within the range of my network. I changed the IP address via the utility and made all other appropriate changes, smugly expecting a quick fix. It wasn't all that quick (about an hour all together) but got there in the end. The final stumbling block was that - as mentioned by others here, but not by belkin - once you have it all set up you have to disconnect the extender from the LAN cable so that it can connect to the wireless network. I presume this is because it has a static IP address and there is therefore a conflict if it is connected via the cable. Anyway, I chose the required network from the 'basic' tab of the utility, chose connect, entered the appropriate security settings, and then unplugged the cable while the device was rebooting. All works fine now.
Good luck if you are going to try it! If you are a technophobe, don't bother.

Summary: Complete failure!
Comment: I've worked in IT for over 30 years and had reasonable knowledge of networking so, despite all the previous reviewers' problems, I thought I could get this to work with my BT Voyager 2100 wireless router. Wrong!
I followed the full process from the manual, tried every menu option, proved that the Voyager and my laptop could both communicate wirelessly with the Belkin - but I never could get the Belkin and Voyager to exchange IP traffic.
Belkin tech support answered my emails promptly but ignored most of the info I provided and just provided extracted scripts from the manual. Telephone support was polite and patient, but almost indecipherable (seemed to be based in India on a bad line, and with strong accents). I gave up eventually after being told to progressively try each of the 13 wireless channels in order to improve wireless reception, which I had already identified was not the issue.

Be aware that this device does not support DHCP. I had to change my entire network to have static IP addresses in the 192.168.2.xxxx range. Wireless reception did seem flaky with variable signal strength (but this may be down to my environment which has lots of wireless systems).

I think this could have been a good product but is let down by poor IP facilities.

Editorial Reviews:

The 802.11g Wireless Universal Range Extender/ access point (WURE) connects to your network switch and lets you join your wireless-equipped PCs to your wired network in Access Point Mode, or lets increase the coverage of your existing wireless network in Range Extender Mode. Once you've done the simple setup, you can share data and peripherals, as well as a single Internet account among all your computers. It is based on standard 802.11g technology for fast wireless file transfers and downloads. The Access Point offers you the widest working range -up to 1500 feet -and a great interoperability in mixed networking environments.
