Customer Rating: Summary: It just works Comment: Having gone through any number of ADSL routers, this has now been sat on my desk for some time now and it just works.
I may not be doing anything clever with it but as an ADSL modem/router, it does the job well and without any fuss. I also don't need to reboot it every few days like a lot of these devices.
So I took it out of the box, set it up and forgot about it. This is how all hardware should be.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic Comment: After trying one of netgear's wireless router and ending up putting it in the bin (internet drop outs).
I took the risk and bought this router, i've never had experience with a linksys product so i was in for a surpise. After i quickly un-wrapped it and plugged the cables in. Place the CD in and went along with the on screen prompts. I knew people said don't use the CD but i don't see anything wrong with it. It set up my connection perfectly and now i can get online with blazing fast speeds and my 360 and wii is finally back online.
This is a fantastic product and i highly recommend it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good features, shame it doesn't work for long Comment: Purchased the router on the basis of Cisco quality & good features. however, after getting the device set up, I found that it disconnected from the internet after a few hours, and needed to be powered off to reconnect. Amazon replaced it (very speedily - thank you!) and I was slightly dismayed to find that the replacement did exactly the same, only it'd disconnect on a much more frequent basis. Still stuck with my 4 year old d-link which never fails.. Progress eh?
Customer Rating: Summary: Awesome piece of kit Comment: Unpacked, plugged into my ADSL, gave it my log in credentials, set a WPA2 code and bob's your uncle! All done in less than ten minutes.
Never had to use the CD, works straight out of the box.
Marvellous!
Customer Rating: Summary: Magically self-deletes configurations Comment: About once every month the router will magically wipe out all configurations forcing me to reinstall the configurations from a backup file. The router isn't mine, but I've to help my old aunt who has it (a friend of mine has it too, and he has similar problems). Imagine that, at least once a month I've to take a call from her requesting me to come over to fix the blasted router.
At times the wireless portion will fail so she is forced to connect to it via the 10/100 wired port. Only once reinstalling the wireless configuration would it work again. Updating the firmware is difficult too, with it constantly rejecting the firmware file I downloaded from Linksys's own website. Even once I got the latest firmware onto it, it still deletes the configurations once a month.
An utterly useless product (this is her third one). Shame as when it works, it works well. Looking at networking forums it seems that many has experienced similar problems. Avoid at all cost.
