Customer Rating: Summary: Some streaks Comment: I love Canon products, so I was expecting flawless prints form this. For pictures that are rich in colour, it is astoundingly good. I'm looking now at a print of some red flowers against green leaves with blue sky in the background. Vivid and realistic do not begin to describe it. However, in a couple of prints I have made that have black or very dark areas, there is deep red streaking across those areas. In a shot of houses and trees silhouetted against a purplish sunset, you can see the streaks in the silhouette. Only visible at an angle, but it is there. In that picture and in another which has no dark areas there are also some mysterious red lines at the bottom of the print. They look like someone has just caught the edge of the paper with the tips of a few brush bristles. A charitable guess might be that these issues are specific to the trial pack of paper that came with the printer. In any event, neither of these problems deeply upsets me and for the vast majority of my snapshots, this printer is very good. But, these are definitely not lab quality prints. Consumer electronics quality, certainly.
I have no need for it, but if you have hopes of using this with bluetooth (Bluetooth gizmo sold separately), you cannot print via Bluetooth from a computer. Also, you will need to provide your own USB cable, since the printer does not come with one. It does come with a retractable cable to connect to a camera, however, and has slots for all kinds of memory card.
Customer Rating: Summary: connecting devices Comment: As I agree with everyone else on the printing quality, there's not alot to say. But...using the printer didn't stop there for me! I wanted to link it to my Netgear WGPS606 print server. No joy...this is because Netgear don't support the printer. So...I then discovered the printer would support bluetooth. Wow, the adaptor from Canon (BU-20) was £50. FIFTY QUID! So what the hell, I stuck in an old Bluetooth adaptor from Sitecom (£19.99) into the Canon ES1. Guess what...it worked without a hitch. My Sony Ericsson phone paired up and printed a perfect picture. Then I stuck a Belkin Bluetooth adapter into a WinXP laptop and then printed without a hitch (I had to remember to right click the picture and send it via Bluetooth to my paired device, e.g. the printer, remember, you're not printing, you're "sending" the image to the printer). Also, because it was bluetooth, even though my Linux (Kubuntu, the KDE version of Ubuntu) distro didn't support the Canon ES1 through CUPS, I stuck in the Belkin adapter (F8T013) and had a go. Yup, it just worked, no problems... I love Bluetooth, it just works.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best deal in town Comment: I bought mine from a shop closing down for twenty six pounds.
Easy to use,and cheap to run.
It can do passport photos too which saves a bundle, even at 90 it a great
buy.
Customer Rating: Summary: Top Quality Prints. Comment: I have not owned this photo printer for very long but by god I'm glad I bought it . Having just used it on my holiday photos I have to say how impressed I am with the quality of the prints . The image , colour and depth to them is as good as any professional photos I have ever had .As it layers colour on colour and ends with a transparent coating to stop scratchs and marks it isn't the quickest printer in the world , but frankly who cares with prints this good . Best phottography buy I have made since going digital . Very Very Impressed !!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Very impressive, easy to use, good price. Comment: I have been happy with the print quality of my previous inkjet printer, however the short time it takes before the prints start to fade is my opinion a bit useless, i'd heard you can buy special long lasting ink & paper for inkjet printers, but it's hard to come by & to be honest I couldn't be bothered to change the cartridges each time I wanted to print a photo, so I bought this ES1. It prints using dye sublmation, a different technology to the standard inkjet printer most people have at home, basically dye sublimation doesn't use dots to make the image, but layers of colour, this means prints are so much sharper, have better colour rendition. Looked at side by side with a photo from the ES1 & my inkjet printer the difference is striking. Also important to me the prints don't fade after a few months'. I chose this printer because I recently bought a canon camera & I really like it & also because the printer looks cool. This will not replace my inkjet printer, I'll just use that for letters or graphics & when I need to print to A4 size, but as a dedicated postcard size photo printer the ES1 is a really nice little unit.
