Customer Rating: Summary: Instructions ... ? Comment: Am really annoyed with this little thing. Had been reading reviews to try to decide what I should get as my first external hard drive after Id filled up my laptops memory. I bought this and have just had a nightmare knowing how to WORK it. There are no instructions, the user manual doesn't actally tell you how to USE it and although I've been able to download the software and copy all my files onto the HD (I think) I have NO idea whatsoever what to do now. I don't know how to access the files, how to use it to store what I would normally save onto my computer's hard drive. It's really, really rubbish, totally frustrating and completely not good enough
Customer Rating: Summary: Broken Comment: Was great to start with but has now stopped working after 6 months or so of light use and some recent travelling around. In case this happens to others - I can hear the heads searching repeatedly when it's powered up; by giving it a few smart taps I was able to get it to boot and was able to access all the data:-)
Customer Rating: Summary: useless! Comment: after getting this hard drive over a week late to start with i wasnt too impressed anyway. then i found out it was a different model to the one stated, even though i paid extra to get the older model! (this is the WDME1600TE NOT the WDXMS1600 stated at the top of the page) plugged it in to my computer and it doesnt work, it tried to install but says installation failed in vista, tried it in every usb slot, no success. found a few solutions on WD website which didnt work so maybe its faulty!
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent product to date! Comment: I have been using my wd passport drive for a couple of weeks now and am extremely happy with it. The drive is very small and light so easy to carry around. I also bought the logic case which was the perfect size for it. All in all I am one happy chappy!
Customer Rating: Summary: superb efficient stylish product Comment: WD is synonymous with first class hard drives and this small portable but powerful HDD does not disappoint.
Its black mirror super light casing makes it a stylish and efficient accessory to go with your laptop.
Just open the package plug in the USB connector, although short makes the data transfer faster, and you are ready to go. The build in software allows for quick update.
The Passport is factory configured to FAT32, which does not enable files large than 4GB and was used ith Win98 and earlier operating systems.
It is strongly recommended that you reformat the Passport to NFTS, as otherwise the drive will fill up very quickly and one is not able to transfer files larger than 4GB. Full easy to follow instructions how to do this can be obtained direct from the WD support site or in the User guide stored on the WD Passport itself.
It is a great product, strongly recommended
