Customer Rating: Summary: ? Comment: I'm really not sure why this item has received such poor feedback. I've repaired a few PS3s since the console launched and the fist batch with the 90nm cell run pretty damn hot. You also have to remember all the PS3 components are packed in very tight with only one fan (albeit a giant one) cooling the cpu and gpu.
I'm sure in an ideal world (if manufacturing costs were cheaper) the back of the PS3 would have had an exhaust fan from the start. But alas it didn't and some of us, myself included, have seen articating and other problems caused by excessive heat.
My advice is, if you have a launch model pick this up. If you have one of the newer 65nm models you won't be needing it.
Customer Rating: Summary: cooling devise... my bum. Comment: well, i bought this fan even though i no my ps3 is capable of looking after its self, but just coz i love it so much and i play for long periods of time, i though ill get a fan so it dosent get too hot. DONT BUY ONE its pants, i played for not even an hour and the thing could of fried eggs on it. the ps3 normalry it gets hot near the top, with the fan on.... well it might as well of glowed red, any way i took it off and continued to play and you know what it cooled down, cold to the touch. oh and its bloody noisy.
thanks for reading
Customer Rating: Summary: does not fit on some ps3 40 gb models Comment: i bought mine second hand from amazon marketplace and when i recieved it it did not fit on my ps3 40 gb model. maybe because it was an older model brought out before the 40gb was introduced but be carful when you by one.
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't Be Fooled Comment: Items like this are just feeding off consumer fears, consoles are built with their own cooling system, this attatchment fixes onto the back of the ps3 where the heat is already escaping, other then adding noise it has no benefit to the console itself.
Some air coolers are counter productive and could damage the system, and keep in mind if you overheat your console because of this 3rd party add on your warranty is voided.
If you want to keep your console truly cool, keep it in a space with plenty of airflow and open a window now and again if you feel the room getting too hot for you.
Customer Rating: Summary: A waste of money could damage your ps3 Comment: Sony spent a lot of time making the ps3 just so, there's just no need for extra cooling else sony would have done it themselves simple and you'd have a machine as loud as the 360. The cell instead has a massive heat-sink and some small system fans to channel the heat up and away from important components, when in it's upright possition, it is has an optimum heat latency effect, after all where else does heat go but up? another 360 design flaw (the hard drive covers nearly 80-90% of the top portion of the 360) sony had the sense to put thier's right at the bottom, well done chaps. There's no need for any cooling of any sort DO NOT BUY. Not to mention the little known fact that fiddlin' about with extra fans, on top of fans, causes differences in air pressure and temperature, as you can produce a build-up of hot air in between them unable to escape because of the varied speeds/pressure (admitidly at certain speeds matched with the variable speed of fans inside the ps3 *this is not gauranteed to happen* tho it most likely will at some point, and has) this causes the intenal Ps3 parts to suffer serious amounts of heat unable to escape coupled with the mounting pressure and you get meltdown. NOT GOOD AT ALL
