Customer Rating: Summary: Apple TV not quite there yet Comment: This is not the best product Apple have introduced as it is still not the easiest to use as most Apple products tend to be. The networking and syncing issues seem to be common problems with most Apple TV users, the most common error is the Apple TV not being seen by iTunes. After several calls to the Apple help line I finally managed to work out all the firewall, security and networking issues that make setting this up a nightmare. The online troubleshooting does not give enough detail on what settings to change to overcome these issues. The syncing also takes ages, to sync around 2000 photos can take 5 hours and when downloading a movie, do it the day before because it takes so long. Forget downloading an HD movie unless you get 20MBps broadband speed - on 2.5mbps it took a whole day. Another issue that most Apple TV owners suffer from is poor wireless networking signal. If its more than 30 feet away from your airport hub, chances are you will have a very weak signal and it will make using the Apple TV slow and frustrating to use. I resorted to using an ethernet connection which created the networking headaches. Another tip - don't buy the 30gb hard drive - you won't have enough room for all your photos music etc. Finally - check out the rip off prices Apple charge to buy movies and TV shows - you can get them on DVD for half the price if you shop around.
Customer Rating: Summary: a simple question Comment: Please can someone tell me, can this machine play the short video clips which you can take on a compact camera? I know it shows photos in a slideshow manner to music, but I want to be able to play a number of short video clips via the tv too. Thanks
Customer Rating: Summary: Wonderful, but don't forget... Comment: You need a HDMI lead! There are no connectors whatsoever in the box so remember to buy your leads. My first night with my 160GB Apple TV was duller than expected when I realised I didn't have an appropriate connector...
Customer Rating: Summary: Apple know how to design a fantastic product Comment: I have been putting off buying an apple tv for a while now, as I didnt really see the point of it, as you could view your photos and music using your computer or ipod. However when Apple announced your could buy films, rent films and buy tv shows I decided now was the time. I bought it yesterday and I must say wow!!! Apple are constantly out doing themselves. As usual with most Apple products set up was so easy. Simply plug it in to the back to the tv, plug in the power, connect your wireless connection and hey presto thats it!!! When you have your wireless set up, simply turn your pc on, and itunes detects your apple tv and syncs all your music, photos and film to the apple tv. However you dont have to have your PC turned on at all times as you can purchase music and rent films via the apple tv, the same way you can through your ipod touch and iphone.
The HDMI connection makes your photos very clear and the interface is similar to that of your standard ipod. My opinion I must buy, definitely go for the larger hard-drive especially if you have a couple of itunes accounts on the one pc.
Customer Rating: Summary: If you have itunes but this... if you don't then get itunes then buy this! Comment: Apple do it again. Another sleek, sexy, wonderful piece of kit.
One box, two leads (three if you don't have wirless internet), and tv really is what you want it to be!
Very very easy to set up (though at first iTunes didn't see the device, just go into itunes, prefrences and untick the look for Apple TV box, select OK, then go back and re-tick it - it then found it no problem).
As well as downloading EVERYTHING you have on itunes, not just your music, but any movies, podcasts, tv shows etc, you can also
Download any folders of photos - then bore I mean show all your friends a neat slide show on your telly with your fav music in the background (or even cooler have your photos floating around the screen as your screen saver on your telly!).
Watch trailers of movies - want to go to cinema but not sure what films are worth seeing... this will give you huge list to look at.
Surf and watch youtube videos - if you into youtube that is!
Best of all - once you synched up and downloaded to the internal harddrive (will I ever fill a whole 160Gb??) you could always unplug the box, take the box, power lead and telly lead to a mates house for an evening watching movies, listening to music, or showing your holiday snaps!
Yeah everything this box can do you can do on your computer... but just so nice lounging in front of proper tv and with a simple remote having all this at hand.
Go on you know you want one!
