Summary: Pleasantly suprised
Comment: Read all the reviews first and then went for it. Delivery was prompt and painless. Tried out the recorder and thought it was well worth the money.I was greatly impressed with the 40plus telephoto lens and the image stabiliser both were excellent. But do get a firewire cable to download your video to your hard disk. The fact that Sony didn't include it didn't bother me.I had to pay about £4 for one and it works well.As I am not planning to go for an Oscar anytime soon, I'm happy with it.
So my advice? Go on--you know you want to!

Summary: Great value camcorder
Comment: I am very happy with this purchase - I didn't want to spend much on a camcorder, but I wanted something easy to use and set up, with decent enough quality for playback on a computer. This does the job for not very much money.

The only gripe I have with this is that it isn't exactly designed to work with Macs. don't get me wrong - once I had bought the correct Firewire, it worked perfectly well with iMovie on my Macbook Pro, but the software it comes with is Windows only and there is no attempt at providing help with a Mac set-up.

That said, this is probably one of the few that seems to work with a Mac...

Overall - i would certainly recommend buying it as a cheap and cheerful way into the camcorder market.

Summary: Good value Camcorder but lacks functions if used with a Mac
Comment: You can transfer your video to a mac using firewire or i.link (as sony calls it) no problem, but if you want to use this as a webcam or an external camera with you mac your out of luck, it doesn't work, I bought this camera as it was good value and sony always represents great product but in hindsight I wish I'd looked into this camcorder more before I bought it.

Summary: very impressed!
Comment: I was very impressed with the delivery from Amazon having ordered this item; it arrived the following day! This is the first time i have purchased an 'electrical' item from Amazon, so i'm well impressed. I bought the Sony DCR-HC37 Handycam to replace an old analogue samsung 8mm camcorder that finally died on me after owning it for 8 years. I'm one of these people who hate going through the instructions first (impatience i know) but found that the handycam HC37 was so easy to use, i didn't need to view the instructions first. Basically, get the camcorder home or have it delivered next day by Amazon and charge the battery (all necessary units included in the box, except DV tapes). I also purchased the DV tapes so i was all ready to go as soon as the thing charged, this took about 45 minutes if my memory serves me right. switch on, open the viewfinder, press EASY button and press REC to start filming. I took the camcorder off to the park with the dog in tow and filmed around five minutes. Got home stuck the cables into the tv (audio, video jack etc) and into the camcorder and hey presto, there was my filming on the TV!!!! I'm writing the review before i've tested it loading onto the computer so i can't give 100% review.
If you basically want a very easy to use 'point and shoot' camcorder, then this is the one for you, particularly if you hate all the added features that can sometimes come with a camcorder and you never use!!!!
Go ahead and buy one, I don't think you'll be disappointed and at this price it's a great one to buy dad for Father's day; if like my dad, gadgets are all too much. This one will be a sinch!

Summary: Good but wait
Comment: Got this camera for xmas , camera its self is great , fast charging times , touch screen use is really good and its a good little cam all around. The only bad points i have to make are the fact it DOES NOT come with USB , Firewire or any DV tapes.

If you want to tranfer video from the camera to your PC you will need the firewire I.link cable (there on ebay for £2 inc. delivery) , you will not be able to transfer video with the USB only images.

Editorial Reviews:

Get digital quality for your personal videos with the DCR-HC37 miniDV camcorder from Sony! With a powerful 40x optical zoom and an 800,000-pixel CCD sensor, this camcorder allows you to take close-ups of subjects from a distance while preserving excellent image quality. The DCR-HC37 also has an electronic image stabiliser and a NightShot mode so you can film in the dark. Plus, the DCR-HC37 only weighs 390 grams, even with its 2.5? touch screen, and brings life to your creations thanks to its FireWire and USB ports. You?ll even be able to edit your wok on your computer in a matter of minutes. At excellent value for money, the DCR-HC37 is the perfect camcorder for all the family.
