Customer Rating: Summary: Buyer beware! Comment: Please be very wary when buying this camera, bought this camera for my mum and dad for taking on a 30th wedding anniversary holiday, when they got back the camera came up with a C:13:01 format error, so far all photos are still lost, have been on many forums with lots of angry sony customers but so far no one, not even sony, seem to be able to come up with an answer.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent best seller Comment: I use this camera for work. Pro, excellent output quality, shooting modes previewed on lcd as you select with text description, saves squinting at the dial, excellent build quality, good software/menu easy to use, battery life outstanding. I shoot about 150 shots per week and I am now in week three after first charge. It has been easy to use and the lcd screen has a good resolution. Against and hence four stars only Sony, why not use the 'standard ' sd memoey card instead of Sony only memory card, and why non standard usb connection on the camera. Hope I dont loose the connecting cable because I bet the replacement from Sony will cost. Small gripes though for a well designed, good looking, good value digital camera which I shall take on holiday as it will fit easily in my pocket. by the way buy a case as its too nice to scratch.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very pleased! Comment: Having trawled the internet for days looking for a new camera, I decided to buy the sony dsc w55 having read good reviews on it. Amazon came out top on price so I decided to plunge and go for it along with a case and memory stick. So far so good, it is really easy to use (which is good for me as I am not very technical!) The dial is a really nifty idea, you can change mode in a matter of a second.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good camera Comment: Its a very easy to use camera. Nightshots are not brilliant .My main grouse is that it is very easy to move the mode setting dial. It could be firmer so that you don't move it inadvertently to movie or ISO etc.
Good size screen.
Customer Rating: Summary: Simple.. but excellent Comment: My mother is a complete technophobe and had used the same polaroid camera for 14 years, which recently broke. I'm a bit of a gadget man myself, so did a few searches and found this little gem on Amazon. I ordered it for her on mother's day (turned up promptly, nicely wrapped by Amazon). I insisted she read the instruction manual and then take some photos of me and my brothers. Within half an hour she was adjusting light/flash/zoom settings and got some awesome snaps. They look simply excellent on my HD laptop screen, much nicer than other horrible compact camera shots you see knocking about. In short, she loves it. For the price, I really don't think you can fault it...
However, it doesn't come with a case and the memory is fairly poor, so you're looking at an extra £20(ish) to get the full benefit from it. I haven't removed a star because of this as this now seems to be the case across the entire electronics industry (same with GPS and iPods etc etc) and therefore not a criticism of this specific product.
To summarise, if you want a highly compact, sub £150, good quality digital camera - look no further. Apologies for the essay by the way!

Sony has added to the renowned W series with a discreet and stylish camera. The Cyber-shot DSC-W55 is a light and compact camera that's equipped with a 7 million-pixel CCD Super HAD sensor and the unbeatable Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 3x optical zoom. It's also equipped with the ?Clear RAW NR? system, which reduces background noise and optimises colours, making it easy to take beautifully sharp photos, even when you're using the zoom. The 2.5? TFT screen is easy to see on the DSC-W55, and the camera also includes an optical viewfinder. Among the DSC-W55?s numerous advantages is a sensitivity of 1000 ISO, which is ideal for low-lighting conditions, 7 scene modes, a VX Fine video mode and even a Stamina battery, letting you take up to 380 photos without recharging the camera! Easy to use, the Cyber-shot DSC-W55 is a high-performance camera with an elegant design, perfect for those wanting to take advantage of digital-quality photos.
