Customer Rating: Summary: edit impossible Comment: This camera seemed fine, pictures and film downloaded and viewed on my PC OK But I've tried three diferent video edit programs on 2 different PCs and all the programs have frozen after inserting a couple of clips from this camera. They don't like it. Unfortunatley Sony Contact is down under high volume of communications at the moment, now I think about it they didn't reply to a querry I made a year ago about something else. I'm not quite sure what to do about it.
Customer Rating: Summary: MAC USER? AVOID! But great camera for PC users Comment: I bought this camera a few days ago and I loved it. It's size, it's price, it's features, it is a great entry level HDD camera. I was in love. I made some great videos on it. But then it came to getting the videos on to my Mac... I could move them over fine, but the mpeg2 format caused me problems. I paid for and downloaded the mpeg2 add on for quicktime and I could now view and edit the movies. But the quality is abysmal, the videos are horribly (re?)compressed and horizontal lines destroy every clip I ever made. Even when I burned a DVD containing the files, I found that it played back even worse and every fault, line, pixellation and frame issue seemed magnified. I tried a variety of solutions but nothing worked. Research has led to the same avenue every time. INCOMPATIBLE WITH MACS. I researched this before buying it but obviously not enough. I never imagined that I would have issues. I plugged the camera into my housemate's PC and watched and edited the files and it all worked beautifully.
The small print on the box says that the supplied software CD is windows only, but that didn't bother me as I already had some nice video editing suites on my Macintosh and didn't plan on using the supplied software. But what they failed to mention on the box is that the files are NOT MAC COMPATIBLE.
A lovely camera with great features, I just wish I could use it. I would give this a 5 star rating if it wasn't for the compatibility issues. It should be made clearer on the packaging.
Customer Rating: Summary: A very good camera which has not let me down Comment: I have owned this camera for over a year now, with holidays and weddings filmed. So far I have to say that it has been really good value for money. The picture is very good, it has a 40x optical zoom (you will need a tripod if using) and the touch screen is very simple to use with some useful features. I'm not an expert on cameras so this is perfect for filming home movies (decent or otherwise!), holiday stills and footage plus I have recently filmed a wedding which came out really well. The 30gb of memory means that you can literally film for years without having to clear it and it is easy to upload onto a laptop. My suggestion though is that you ensure you have a recent laptop as it struggled with my girl friends lower spec toshiba, which is relatively new. Its also very compact which means that you dont have to worry about it taking up space plus the bag as part of the package ensures I can keep all together. The battery lasts about 90mins on normal filming so I would recommend getting a spare as I have been caught out a few times. Overall a really good camera and if your not a budding david bailey then this will certainly provide good value for money.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Versatile and Well Designed Camcorder Comment: Having used a Sony Hi8 analogue camcorder since 1997 I thought it was time to upgrade to digital. I've had my DCR-SR32 now for about six weeks and as an easy to use, very compact machine I am very pleased with my purchase. The 40X zoom is very impressive and the convenience of being able to switch easily between video and still mode is most useful. I feel that when I am more conversant with the touch screen it will be an efficient way to access the many features available on this camera. A couple of gripes though, firstly : if,like me,you like to start and finish scenes by fading in and out, access to the fade out is very fiddly. Fading in is fine as this is accessed befofe starting to film but fade out (which must be done while the camera is running) takes 3 screen touches to access, during which it is virtually impossible not to shake the camera. Secondly: the supplied software is fine for stills but woefully inadequate for movie footage. In order to edit your films it would be neccessary to use a commercial video editing suite. To summarise, I'm on the whole quite pleased with my new camera add if it lasts me as long as my previous machine and is as reliable , then I will be extremely satisfied with my purchase.
Customer Rating: Summary: Early days but first impressions are excellent Comment: I've had the Sony DCR-SR32 camcorder for 2 weeks now but have give it a thorough going over & up to now i love everything about it. Its my first ever camcorder but is really easy to use.
The touch screen lcd is (pardon the pun) a nice touch & the 30gb hard drive is more than enough. Once i had a few videos saved on the hard drive, i then just sit it on the docking station supplied & copy it to my PC. No problems.
The night mode is something different & funny but will probably never get used but you never know.
All for £265 delivered from Amazon. No complaints what so ever.
5 stars & fully recommended.
