Summary: Works a treat and saves you pounds
Comment: This phone works a treat for outbound and inbound skype calls. This phone saves me 75 quid a month on international calls. Clear call quality with no delay around the house, good battery life and easy to set up.

no problems to report of. only thing is the speaker is very weak.
as we use the speaker function quite a bit.

Summary: Lacking in some basic functionality
Comment: Unfortunately, although the SPH200D does a lot of things right, it is lacking in some basic functionality which, if you've used a phone in the last decade or more, you really will expect.

Although it supports Caller ID, at the time of writing, with the latest firmware (1.0.4.80) the handset still only displays the phone number ringing you and does not perform a reverse lookup into your contacts list to display a name, if a match is found.

This is such a basic flaw it, in my opinion, makes this Skype Phone unusable. Frustratingly, if you miss a call and display the Call History, it shows the contact names there, so a lookup has been performed at that stage but why, Netgear, would you not perform the lookup at the time of the incoming call.

I will be returning my SPH200D and cannot recommend the product based on this flaw. If Netgear get their act together and patch in a fix, then I would have no hesitation in re-purchasing it but, for now, I'll use Skype on my PC, which does display the contact name when they call, and look for a.n.other manufacturer who employed designers who actually used the product before release!

Summary: Superb and a pleasure to use.
Comment: No trouble with the installation - approx 15 mins. Worked as expected with great clarity. Performed the firmware upgrade which failed the 1st time but performed the upgrade on the 2nd attenpt.
The reviewer who said it looked and felt cheap, should perhaps buy the Rolls Royce model next time.

Summary: Hugely Disappointing Phone
Comment: I've had this phone for a year now (March 2007 - March 2008) Can't recommend it. Here's why . . .

It's not reliable. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. I've re-booted it about a dozen times this past year.

Netgear "Support" as noted by other Netgear customers, does not exist. As Gertrude Stein once famously said (of Oakland, California) "There is no there --- there." The only help you'll get with this buggy, fussy, over-priced, unreliable phone, is from online postings by other users smarter about the mysteries of this phone than I shall ever be.

Had I to do it over again, I'd go with a Bluetooth (wireless) headset. In fact, that's what I am about to do next.

You may have noted that Skype itself does not promote the Netgear Skype phone. They promote the Belkin, which is even worse (I bought it before this one)

Best of Luck.

Marsha

Editorial Reviews:

NETGEAR's Dual-mode Cordless Phone with Skype uses your broadband Internet connection to make free calls via Skype without needing a PC. You can also make and receive phone calls using your traditional home phone line (land line). Just plug the phone's base station into your broadband internet connection and your ordinary phone jack. See who is on-line and manage your Skype contact list. Also use SkypeOut to make phone calls to any telephone worldwide for just pennies a minute and no monthly fees. Or subscribe to other Skype services, such as SkypeIn or voicemail. These phones are equipped with built-in speakerphone and advanced DECT digital cordless technology offering crystal clear voice quality with long range and expandable to a total of 4 handsets. The handy intercom feature allows handsets can be used to communicate with each other throughout the home.
