Customer Rating: Summary: Awful Comment: Do not buy.
We previously had a Liteon DVD recorder with 80 gig hard drive and we only bought the Philips for the larger hard drive space and the USB port. I wish I had bought another Liteon now as this is the worst recorder I have ever bought. The menus are slow, divx files crash for no reason and the player shuts down and restarts randomly, brand new DVDs won't play properly and have to be remounted and when copying files from hdd to disc it randomly renames them. You can't edit out adverts, you only have the ability to hide them and you can't split a file and then rejoin it. The Liteon in comparison is an excellent recorder with functional editing and no problems when recording to a disc. This afternoon the Philips deleted a recording, which was the last straw. I will never buy any products from Philips again and will be trying to get my money back.
Customer Rating: Summary: Picture quality Comment: I bought this DVD player but took it back as the picture quality stored on it was poor! I found the instructions difficult to understand and I was very disappointed in not being able to tune my digital tv into it!
Customer Rating: Summary: Avoid!! Comment: Ill get straight to the point, this is an AWFUL bit of kit, its painfully slow, records only when it feels like it and even then if it does record what you want it may just decide to randomly delete it at any time. Its also quite prone to freezing if you ask something complicated like changing channel to quickly. Oh and finally the picture quality is honestly so poor i don't know how it passed quality control!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Good with minor problems Comment: This does not have an electronic programme guide but does have videoplus. Picture quality off the hard disc or DVD is very good. It plays DIVX movies very well. The remote has some small buttons but responds well. Recordings off the timer are fine but it takes a while to boot up.
The disply when watching live TV has a mind of its own, sometimes displays channel name, somtimes date or programme name. In other modes it works as you expect. Mine froze twice, the red record light staying on after a timer recording, unplugging fixed it.
I've not tried tranfer to DVD but it plays recordings on DVDR & DVDRW well. Overall I'm well satisfied
Customer Rating: Summary: excellent all rounder Comment: I previously had a liteon dvd recorder but the timer packed up so started searching for a replacement with more features. decided after reading loads and loads of reviews of various makes and models to go for this phillips unit. I certainly made the right decision, what a fabulous piece of kit. Very versatile, plays divx seemlessly from hdd, usb or dvd and you can transfer the file between any of the formats.picture quality is excellent, set up and use very easy, not crashed at all as mentioned in prevoius review and the response from the remote seems very normal not slow at all. money well spent and you would be hard pressed to find a better unit for the price.
