Summary: ups and downs
Comment: I bought a 250 Gig version about a year ago and it was fine until last week when I started getting I/O errors, I have one of this model too, which is trouble-free, but I use the 250 Gig every day, and the 500 Gig as a backup, so although they are very good value for money it might be worth checking the opposition as well before buying.

Summary: Originally great...then random failure!!
Comment: I bought this product just under a year ago, and had a similar problem to the review below. It was working fine, doing what it was meant to, but then it just stopped working one day. It was not being recognised by any computers, Vista or XP. It would not let me reformat it.
I'm actually so angry because I thought this would be the safest way to back up files and put my music on to save space on my computer, but now I've lost over 60GB of music!

Summary: Piece of junk
Comment: Bought one of these about 6 months ago, they cost more than 100 Euro [80 pound] then. I used it exclusively as a back-up. Yesterday it died. I didn't even have the time to use the entire space. I own 8 iPods and they are all still alive so I guess I'm not a moron in the field of pc related products. Of course the most annoying thing is the hasle that such an event provokes, but the waist of money isn't a mood elevator too, certainly. Don't buy.
