Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent product Comment: Excellent product. Works happily with Windows Vista. Very easy install, very clear manual. No problems at all, although it is better if printer is already set up on computer by cable beforehand. Heartily recommended.
Customer Rating: Summary: Edimax multifunction print server rocks! Comment: I bought the Edimax PS-1206MFG with a degree of scepticism, after having read so many reviews about cheap SOHO multifunction printer server interfaces that just weren't compatible with many all-in-one devices.
The Edimax is wireless or 10/100 Ethernet wired (it selects automatically), and has solved all of my USB printer/scanner/card reader sharing problems in one hit, and if my printer had fax capabilities, I'm pretty damn sure they would work too - I now use 2 wireless laptops and a wired desktop, all of which can do all functions!
It's smaller than a ciggy packet, and mega-easy to install. I opted to install my Canon MP510 drivers and OEM software by individually connecting each PC by USB as if stand alone - that way you know your drivers are in and running.
Then it's simply a matter of hooking the PS-1206 to the USB printer and into my LAN router (wired at first) and installing the setup utility from the CD provided. (It installs a neat soft "server scanner" that finds the PS-1206 whatever it's default IP. Then set the usual stuff; name; description; and a suitable static IP to suit your LAN.
For printing only , this is pretty much it - on each PC, go into the printer and assign a new TCPIP port to match the PS-1206 (follow the Quick Setup Booklet provided) and away you go!
For scanning, faxing, card reading functions, you need one step further - set up the MFP Server software on each PC - this then auto-installs all of the device drivers as if you had directly connected. You must run the background MFP every time you need to scan, fax, etc.
My only criticism? Printing is fast wired or wireless, but wireless 804.11g scanning and card reading through the MFP Server is quite slow (it does work though) - I personally have the PS-1206 unit wired to my hub - this makes it 4 times as fast, even though I might be using a wireless laptop to do it.
Final thought: Check out the Edimax website and download their .pdf of compatible printers before you commit to buy.
