Summary: Nearly a Year now and so reliable until now...?
Comment: I've never had a problem with this wireless router. Everything that I've needed to connect to this has connected seamlessly. Cheap laptops have been able to connect at full speed. Even my old Palm TX will connect no problems. Until I bought a 2G Ipod Touch and for some reason it would not connect.

So in a fit of madness I bought an Apple extreme wireless router. Now my Ipod connects but the speed of everything else and the range is significantly worse. The Apple looks nice and costs twice as much as the D-link, but it's all show and no go.

So to cut a long story short, I've gone back to the D-link and I'll wait for Apple to fix the Ipod Touch. Here I am, in the garden (30ft and three walls away) back with a good signal downloading at 20Mb from my broadband connection. Bliss! Truly a recommended product.

Summary: Truly awful
Comment: Probably the worst router I've ever had. Wired connection is ok, buy the much hyped wireless capabilities are very poor. Connection drops every 10 minutes, even though the signal strength is supposedly ok. I've tried every tweak I can find, but still much more hassle than a cheaper router.

Summary: Failed to work on one of my PC's
Comment: I bought this router from Amazon (supplied by PIxmania).
All the packaging was in French (which seems to be typical of items from Pixmania), so not a good start.
The power supply was a two pin affair with a UK adaptor - something I was not keen on.
I bought this router to replace my Netgear WGR 614, I wanted a gigabit router as my most recent PC had a gigabit network, and I'm due to replace some of my other PC's at home shortly.

Router seemed to work OK, but I had real problem getting one of the PC's to be recognised by it. WAs OK with my old Netgear one.

In the end, I got fed up with it (after about a week of trying) so I sent it back.

Pixmania refunded the cost of the router, but did not refund the postage to/from them, so it cost me about £12.

Pixmania tested the router and said it was working OK, so the problem may have been my lack of technical knowledge.

Only giving it two stars because of the French power adaptor / packaging and the fact that it's not as easy to set up as it should be.

Summary: Excellent router
Comment: No problems so far. Easy to set up. Using with Vista and XP, all fine. Also handles streaming of video files with ease.

I'm using it with a Linksys DMA 2100 to stream music, TV and photos to the living room TV from Vista Media Center. Works a charm. My previous wireless n router which was a Belkin couldn't handle 'multicasting' which was required for the streaming.

That said, the lights on this router flash ALL THE TIME!!! It's a little bit annoying but no different from most other routers. Only Belkin so far seem to have sorted this. Their newest routers have 'always on' (or off) lights, and that is much nicer to have in the home (or anywhere for that matter). But I wouldn't buy Belkin again until they add multicasting support.

Summary: Easy to install, works excellently
Comment: I bought this so that we could connect wirelessly a laptop (XP) and desktop (Vista) to the internet at the same time. I was a bit apprehensive that it could turn into a slog to get this installed, but I didn't need to worry. I am really impressed with how easy this was to set up. The installation wizard was straight forward, guiding me step by step through the modem installation and setting up the security. Amazingly, I was able to connect wirelessly to our Virgin cable broadband from my laptop within 3minutes of putting the installation CD in the drive! I would thorougly recommend for complete beginners like me... although make sure this is suitable for your broadband connection first.

Editorial Reviews:

Wireless N Gigabit Router: The D-Link DIR-655 Wireless N Gigabit Router is an 802.11n (Draft 1.0) compliant device that delivers real world performance of up to 650% faster than an 802.11g wireless connection and also faster than 100Mbps wired Ethernet. By connecting the DIR-655 router to a cable or DSL modem, users will be able to share their high-speed Internet access with everyone on the network and create a secure wireless network to share photos, files, music, video, printers and network storage throughout their home. High-performance: The DIR-655 features the fastest processor in the RangeBooster NTM range, achieving ever higher throughput results between WAN and LAN networks. Combined with the acclaimed QoS StreamEngine, this allows the DIR-655 to provide a better Internet experience by keeping Internet phone calls and online gaming smooth and responsive. In addition, the router includes four Gigabit Ethernet switch ports for highest transfer speeds to other Gigabit capable devices such as a network attached storage device. Wireless LAN Intelligent Stream Handling (WISH) technology: The DIR-655 router includes Quality of Service (QoS), wirelessly as well as to and from the Internet (StreamEngine). It features WISH, which enhances the consumer's experience for gaming, HDTV and other media applications over a wireless connection by minimizing the disruptive effects of competing traffic on the wireless network. It automatically detects if audio, video or gaming content is being used on the wireless network and gives these applications priority over less time-sensitive traffic such as email or file transfers. It then adjusts priorities on the fly to ensure media content is transmitted without jitter or lag. Furthermore, the router enforces a "good neighbour" policy, ensuring that it will not create interference for neighbouring networks. This is achieved by reducing the amount of radio spectrum used when detecting a legacy 802.11g/b network in the vici
