Summary: Not quite what I was hoping for, but better than some others
Comment: I bought this having had problems with the Competition Pro reader. The main reason for buying it was that it claims to work with the MAX memory cards.
While I did manage to transfer all files from my Sony card, unfortunately the reader didn't recognise the MAX card - apparently this only happens with a small percentage, but I have read another review from someone with the same problem.
Using the PS2 memory card manager I did manage to transfer the saves over - it took a while, but I have now got all of my PS2 saves on my PS3.
In summary, I got there in the end, but it would have been much quicker if the reader had done what it is supposed to do.

Comment: Got this to carry on playing final fantasy 12 on ps3 coz i sold my ps2 little did i know it would be so difficult use. My ps3 does`nt even recognise the datamax when pluged nor does my pc which is only a year old the manual gives no help what so ever, complete waste of money and now got to start all over again on my game when was 35 hours into gameplay

Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS!
Comment: I bought this for my nephew who just recently got a PS3. He decided to give me his PS2, so I picked this up so that I could transfer his saves and use his old memory card. I followed the directions and tried to transfer the data. It didn't work. Odd. I tried to check the card. CORRUPTED. The card couldn't even be reformatted. The card is now bricked, and the Data Max is useless. The plastic fell apart after inserting the card ONCE.
The card was an Official Sony 8 MB card. It is now a $25 paper weight. DON'T BUY THIS. Unless bricking your electronics is your thing. Then go ahead I guess.

Summary: PS3->PS2
Comment: If you try to transfer from a PS2 to PS3 it will work ok. If you try from PS3 to PS2 it will delete your saves in the PS2 (disaster)and will give an error. I guess that the reason is that when Datel did this product the PS3 firmware didnt support PS3 to PS2 transffers and the new update (after 1.80) is not compatible with datel, only with the official product.

Summary: We are the minority, BUT
Comment: There is a problem with the Datel Data Max Card Reader. It is even addressed in the User Manual booklet that comes with it, with no assistance for people who don't have a PS2 anymore (either by trading up or misplacing it, or leaving it with a loved one while going off to college). The problem is simple: It won't work with *some* Datel Max Memory cards.
My issues with this are:
1. If it's the same brand, why would there be a hardware incompatability.
2. You can leave it plugged into your system for hours on end, with no information coming up about whether it even worked. The only indication Data Max gives that it's even doing anything is a flashing light on the reader itself.
3. The product is made rather poorly. After about two minutes out of the package, and with very little force being applied, the plastic fell apart.
It has been mentioned in the manual that the number that won't work is very small, but it makes it even worse when you turn out to be in that group. So much for my old gamesaves.
