Customer Rating: Summary: desktop beater Comment: i purchased this machine after having sifted through endless amount of spec sheets for different makes. my main reason for purchasing this laptop was i needed a decent spec to replace my half decent spec desktop i was getting rid of. thought this best matched my criteria for a spec that wasn't going to go out of date as soon as i'd bought it. my brother had previously had an earlier model acer and had reported no problems to date in 18 months. glad i went for this spec, its a great piece of kit. mine is the 160 gb model but there is actually only about 130-140 gb available.bluetooth button comes up with no device on screen so a bit pointless. my wife keeps catching the soft touch player key on right side so opens up cd burning program,i don't. sounds great, dolby home theatre with virtual surround sound. screen fantastic.graphics slowed a bit when playing need for speed on full detail and quality but had left everything running in desktop background to so that didn't help. my preference, i think colour and design look great inside and out, not drab black or silver.not sure if dvd drive is hd although it has got an HDMI output. laptopsdirect show different spec with hd drive. 8 cell battery standard but still short life.wifi is great.i get good signal when using it in bed with router in lounge downstairs.overall don't hesitate, buy it but check for different specs about 6 models to choose from on acer website.
Customer Rating: Summary: 8600gt Comment: i want to buy this model but need to know first the specs. does it definately have a 8600GT NOT a 8600GS graphics card??????
Customer Rating: Summary: Quite Simply ... Excellent Comment: The review in PCW said excellent but that was for a different (lower) spec machine. Now seems to come with 250GB HDD, HD DVD Drive, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS (not GT) with 256MB and a 5in1 Card Reader. Webcam has also proved sufficiently good for Video Conferencing.
One niggle ... did not come with Wireless 802/11 Draft-N or Bluetooth as reveiwed, but haven't seen the need for either yet.
Overall though quite simply excellent. Well worth the money, it doesn't feel like there has been any skimping on components or build quality here.
Customer Rating: Summary: What a bargain! Comment: I needed a new laptop but my head ws left spinning with the bewildering range available. I read up on loads and decided on the specs I wanted so that narrowed it down to half a dozen. I was wandering around a shop and came across the Acer. I went back a few times to have another look at it and thought the design, colour and specification was perfect. I could have got a 5920G display model at a discount but wanted a new one. Boy, was that a right decision! A 5920 with all the specs listed but with an HD drive, 1GB of Turbo Memory (whatever that is), 250GB hard disk and Bluetooth all for a measly £799. OK, I had to pay £9.95 delivery but I wasn't about to complain.
Is it worth the money? Yes, and more. The wi-fi works anywhere, the screen is wonderful, the 'car door' opening is unusual, the design is a talking point, the keyboard is nice and responsive, the 0.3MP camera is OK (some have suggested it could be higher but I can't see any difference myself), the ports are all there and accessible (the USB on the right hand side is a bit too close to the drive bay but it can still be used with a mouse, etc and there are three others to use), the Dolby Home Theatre works well and the the blue lights look good in the dark. The media 'buttons' on the right could, and probably should, have been located elsewhere but I can live with it.
How Acer can sell a machine like this for the price is beyond me. If you're looking at a new laptop, you don't have to look any further than this one.
Customer Rating: Summary: Which one? Comment: The Acer website has two configurations listed for this model:
LX.AGS0X.015 - Which has 1GB Turbomemory but no Bluetooth listed.
LX.AGW0X.169 - Which has Bluetooth but no 1GB Turbomemory listed.
I can't see why they can't offer a model that has both.
It appears that it's the LX.AGS0X.015 model with the 1GB Turbomemory that Amazon are selling.
