Customer Rating: Summary: GREAT CAMERA. BE WARY RE UNIDENTIFIED IMAGES WHEN SD CARD NEARLY FULL. Comment: I have used this camera to take about 800 pictures and 20 short movies in the past year. Portable but not too small for my big hands. Easy to use. Picture quality excellent on photos, not so good on video (but useful, fun, and easy to use when I'm only able to take camera in my back pack when I've kids things to carry as well). The only trouble I had was when a Hama high speed SD Card 4g was close to capacity and I started to lose some of the images I had taken when I reviewed them again due to unidentified image errors (which I note another reviewer has referred to). Since then I have switched to 2g SD cards from scandisk and these have so far proved reliable.
Customer Rating: Summary: very very good camera Comment: everything about this camera is very high quality from the metal casing to the screen. the pictures come out amazing almost everytime. pionting and shooting is as easy as a camera can be. the image stablizer works brilliantly. macro is great. and there are so many ways to customize your settings you can achieve very professional results. i really cant over emphasize that this is the camera to get. forget the fact you can get more mega pixels than this. you wont need better quality than this produces. and the ease of operation and speed of everything just adds to the overall feel of quality. everything seems to happen instantainiously. you press on and its there in less than a second. literaly. switch to review mode. under a second. no messing. the no battery indicator is only slightly annoying as the battery lasts ages. you'll easily get 200 pics with flash.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic little machine! Comment: I almost went for a dSLR instead whose customer images had better clarity, but the compactness of this won out, so I just crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. I love it.
Performance
It performs really well in a night setting though you have to use the manual options to get the best out of it. The rest of the time I've used the auto function and am stunned by how well it does. I've just come back from a very wet week walking in the Cevennes in France. The camera ignored the fact that my waterproof gear failed totally and carried on taking great pictures even after getting drenched. Quite a few photos were taken while being driven along bumpy mountain roads at 40 mph plus. Ok, some blurred alittle, but most are crystal clear, so 10/10 for image stabilisation! When I downloaded the pictures onto the pc, they're incredibly clear, and can be magnified far more than I had anticipated, it's like having binoculars in retrospect.
Packaging
The camera itself is small, light, comfortable to use and dead simple. The LCD screen is a great bonus, especially with the intelligent image orientation (turn the camera and the image follows suit). All of the functions are easy to access, and there aren't so many in one area that you have to scroll for ages to find what you want.
Options
I took the advice on here and bought a spare battery. While it's handy, it's not necessary as the warning gives you at least another 20 photos in point and shoot mode. I played it safe and swapped to the spare before the first battery ran out, so I'm not sure how much further it could go. This was all using the LCD preview screen which is supposed to eat power. Definitely buy the bigger memory though. I have 2GB in it now and the 250 high clarity images I took barely made a dent in it. It takes the hassle factor away.
All in all, I'm so glad I turned down that dSLR! I'll try to upload some images so you can see what it can do in the hands of a rank amateur.
Customer Rating: Summary: Canon IXUS IS Highly Recommended Comment: If you are looking for a high quality, point and shoot digital camera then the Canon IXUS 950 IS is definitely one for your shortlist. It has a number of strengths for a point and shoot camera, such as excellent picture quality and a superior build quality and is certainly well worth a closer look as especially considering the affordable price. Very Highly Recommended.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great little camera Comment: I've only had this camera a few days and find it really easy to use. My pictures so far have been great quality, but as i'm not used to such a small camera I kept putting my fingers in front of the flash at first.
The LCD screen is very clear and the menus are easy to use, but even though the camera comes with a basic instruction booklet I wish it had a complete one because I like taking it on holiday with me incase I press something I shouldn't.
For a long time I was going to get the Ixus 75 but changed my mind and i'm glad I chose this one instead.
I also bought the DCC 70 camera case to go with it and its ideal.

Canon has completed its Digital IXUS range with the 950 IS, an ultra-compact digital camera with a sleek design and 8 megapixel CCD sensor. Thats 1 full megapixel more than its predecessor, the IXUS 850!This camera combines an optical image stabiliser and DIGIC III image processor to improve focusing, colours and visual rendering. You can be sure of what youre shooting and centre your focus around a particular object or face, using the 2.5" LCD screen. This Canon camera features a face detection mode for photos with even lighting and reduced shadows. The IXUS 950 IS has ISO sensitivity of up to 1600 to adapt to any environment. It also includes Canons own My Colours mode, which eliminates red eyes and adds special photo effects, such as saturation, neutral, softened, sepia and black and white. Finally, for the amateur film director in all of us, the IXUS 950 IS can even record short videos!
