Customer Rating: Summary: Saitek Cyborg 5.1 surround sound headset =/ Comment: they arrived in a nice box with quite a nice carry case for the headphones but to be honest they should of spent the money on improving the headphones not making them look more fancy. vista quality on these headphones is shockingly bad. their comfort is poor with my ears aching frequently after long gaming sessions. and worst of all the hinges at the sides of the headphones are incredibly weak. if you buy these headphones for your own safety buy some plastic glue because the sides will break. its just a matter of when they do.
i've had 2 pairs of them so far. first pair had both sides break and the second pair currently only has one broken side =/
awesome huh ?
Customer Rating: Summary: Fragile, poor quality, expensive... Comment: These are the three words I would use to sum up this headset. When I originally ordered this it came broken in the packaging, with the right ear piece snapped clean off. Not happy, I send it back to amazon to receive a replacement. I should have got a refund, because these are some of the worst headphones I have ever used. After a month the left earpiece snapped off and it is clear why. The earpieces are attached by a piece of poor quality plastic about 1cm in width, which snapped cleanly in half when removing the headphones from my head as normal. This fact, along with the poor quality surround sound means that I give this product 1 star, as it is far too expensive for what you get, and in all honesty, these WILL break on you!
Customer Rating: Summary: More than I expected Comment: I bought these thinking that they would be just a fairly good pair of headphones with very basic surround sound features but after recieving them I was very surprised by how good they sounded and looked and felt and I am very pleased. The surround sound is not perfect by far but it is cirtainly good enough to know where the sound is comming from if set up correctly at the start.
Customer Rating: Summary: Poor Vista Support Comment: The Vista drivers provided are frankly inadequate. There is a Vista certified logo on the box, but sadly certification for Vista is at the expense of core functionality.
The following is based on my experience with the product:
1. True 5.1 doesn't work on Vista, but works with XP. This is quite a shame because the very purpose of a 5.1 headset is lost! I guess this seems to be a problem with most 5.1 sound cards when it comes to Vista drivers (atleast for now).
2. The equalizer and sound setting do not have any effect on the sound quality in Vista. These work very well in XP.
3. Contacted Saitek support for updated Vista drivers to fix my problems. Apparently, the product uses a third party external sound card. Hence, Saitek don't seem to have any control over the drivers.
4. As per the instruction manual the installation CD should install a couple of demos to test the 5.1 audio. The demo gets installed with XP only. The demo does not automatically get installed in Vista. I tried manually installing the demo for Vista. On playing the demo I realized that the headset was Not producing true 5.1 sounds in vista. The 5.1 audio produced in XP (in the demo) was quite good though.
5. The mute button did not work on the piece I received (5.1 mode)
Overall a good product for XP, but Not Vista ready.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very good sound quality, but quality of the headset it self is poor... Comment: I received this headset today and after 1 hour use the right ear piece broke off!
