Summary: register/manual
Comment:
I have given this camera 4 stars although i have not taken a photograph.
The problems i have encountered is a lousy manual which shows and details top, front and back but not the bottom of the camera. The bottom of the camere is where the battery and usb cables are inserted and battery and SD card is installed but no instructions are given.
Also i found it impossible to register my camera on the Samsung website.

I only hope i do not have any problems with my camera as the above does not give me hope regarding their service department.

Summary: Poor Battery!
Comment: I agree with the fact that the camera is very small and handy but there are 2 negative points: 1. some picts come out blurred, you have to be very steady when taking pict unless you are using the function "children". 2. I am not happy with the battery: it takes hours to charge and it doesnt last long, especially if you want to see the pict while you are still on holiday. Twice I had the not nice surprise of being without battery while on holiday...and I hadnt used the camera that much!

Summary: Lovely design, good features but poor pictures except in the best light
Comment: Agree 100% with earlier reviewer (A Stevens, 'Drain') who stated..:

"This camera is beautifully designed and beautifully engineered. Unfortunately it fails in the most important aspect of all: consistent picture quality. Except in bright conditions the pictures are frequently blurred."

See previous articles for explanation why.

Any picture taken in less than 'bright' conditions is slightly blurred. Also, even with ASR (Antishake reduction) shake-blurr occurs. What really puzzles me is that checking picture statistics often indicates that photos are taken at much less than the 1/60 speed, even with flash on, which is very poor design and explains why camera shake-blurr occurs even in flash mode!
Also, many flash pictures have bright spots on them, due to refraction of the flash on the lens. Another poor design fault.

Real shame, as we also tried to love this neat little camera with some great features. But there is no excuse for such poor pictures in anythoing other than the best natural light condistions.

Now looking for another neat compact, but uncertain whetehr to pay more for the higher spec NV Samsung camera in case same problem arises.

Summary: A great little camera
Comment: I'm really pleased with this purcahse. The camera is really compact, easy to use comes with loads of really handy settings that make a definite improvement on a basic camera. It's definately a good camera for the price. I spent alot of time comparing similar priced models and found that even though you can find some with slightly higher megapixels (that make you think it's a fantastic deal) they lack what I would consider to be basics. The zoom is often poorer and they don't work well in low light, or have the handy shake reduction settings. Another good point with this camera is the face detection setting, I find that when I'm with a group of friends and we're taking one picture of ourselves it's much easier to make sure that we're all in the picture (otherwise we regularly chop a few heads off). The ability to charge the camera via a computer, as well as a mains socket certainly has it's advantages too. One issue I would agree with is that the instructions are very poor. It should be stated that the camera has to be fully charged before the first use, all very basic instructions mention this but these fail too. If you do purchase the camera I reccomend that you do not switch it on without giving it a few hours to charge to its maximum level. The samsung programme makes it easy to upload photos a save them, but apart from that it's pretty useless, so if you like to edit your photos, even if it's only a little bit, you'd benefit from purchasing an editing programme. Also the metal case has meant that, after many times of dropping it, there isn't a scratch on it and it's working just fine, it may be small, but it's not rediulously delicate. I bought the camera on the deal that amazon offer to get a 2gb memory card with it. I'd say that was definately a good buy, obviously the cameras internal memory is virtually useless and this offer makes the memory card considerably cheaper than buying it on the high street. I have to say I was concerned about battery life, I've always used cameras with your typical AA Ni-Mh batteries. They had a long life anyway and you could always keep a stash of them handy. But I've never had a problem with the battery in this camera, the life is really good and you could always purchase a spare if needs be. All in all I'm very pleased with the results.

Editorial Reviews:

The stylishly-designed L83T from Samsung packs all the functions and technologies you need to take beautiful photos with exceptional quality.Equipped with an 8 million-pixel CCD sensor and 3x optical zoom lens, the L83T captures images that are both colourful and full of detail, and which can be printed in large format without losing in quality. Meanwhile, the ASR (Advanced Shake Reduction) feature compensates for camera shake, so pictures turn out clear and defined every time. The L83T is designed to fit comfortably in your hand as you take pictures or preview shots on its large 2.5? screen. The preset scene modes come in very handy, letting you choose the best settings for your camera depending on your surroundings. Add to this the iMovie mode and face detection function, and you have an extremely versatile and easy-to-use digital camera!Loaded with functions and technology, the L83T has everything you need to capture those special moments on film!
