Customer Rating: Summary: freecom hard drive and the company Comment: It broke after two months, if that was not bad enough I went to the company to get it repaired - they firsly sent me out a new adapter, (which was different from the original one they sent), but it still never worked, then I tried to get a replacement, which they made me jump through hoops for, and when i did finally get the RMA code, it had a expirey date on it to when the product must get to the factory, or the warranty voided.
before it worked fine, but next time i'll go through amazon instead of the company directly, they were rude, unhelpful and appeared to have too much experience in their products failing for my liking.
Customer Rating: Summary: E curtin Comment: brought as a gift in 22/12/07, and never had no worries. Great item value for money. 5 star
Customer Rating: Summary: well pleased Comment: having read a lot of reviews i decided on this hard drive i used it on my old pc (windows xp) and it was very good fast transfers and very quiet. i have now got a new pc with vista and i was really impressed when i plugged it in i was waiting and waiting for the found new hardware but it never came vista seemed to recognise the drive right away. so far so good.
drive is very quiet but does seem to heat up after a while so i now turn it off at the back switch when pc is off.
Customer Rating: Summary: Let down Comment: I bought this product and at first it worked OK. Then after about 3 months
it broke down. It would not start up. It is currently returned to the manufacturer's awaiting repair. I do not know if the data on it will be saved, but luckily I have it saved elsewhere. It is not a good recomendation to have this happen so soon after purchase.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good as long as it works Comment: This hard drive failed mid use after 4 months of very light use.On restrting, it made a light buzzing on - off sound. My freecom unit contained a hitachi hard disk. I contacted freecom and they arranged for a one for one swap by mail. with regards to data recovery, they could only give me a document allowing a third party to retrieve data on the failed drive before i returned it to freecom.my data is mostly files that my friends have so i didnt bother with retreiving any of it.i didnt really have the time as i had to travel abroad in a few weeks. i bought two of these drives one for myself and another i recommended for a friend's brother.I have warned him after my drive failed.
The new unit i was supplied has a samsung drive. One has to make a choice between good customer service for one year or a drive that will reliably last longer. Since i cant really choose units personally (i was told freecom use hitachi, seagate and samsung in thir units)im not sure if i want to give freecom another chance when i buy another drive to use as a backup drive for this one.
