Summary: A waste of money
Comment: I ordered this laptop for my wife on the 1st November 2007- it lasted seven months before it became increasingly unreliable and finally gave up the ghost completely mid- May. Acer customer help is useless, they do not supply a recovery disc with the system. The recovery software resides on a 10GB partition on the hard disc- which had become corrupt- the dreaded 'BOOTMGR not present' message- seems to be common with Vista systems. I stupidly upgraded the memory early on in an attempt to make the computer run at a decent speed instead of a 386 with a limp!- that was a mistake, it invalidates the warranty. Moral of the story is DO NOT BY ACER unless it comes with a Vista recovery disc- you cannot rely on the 10GB partition as a recovery option. Nearly £400 down the drain.

Summary: Good, but not without its quirks
Comment: I'll keep it brief. A great laptop, it performs well, multitasks (I can use two instances of Photoshop CS3, WMP, browse the internet and have messenger open all at once with room to spare) and is ideal for college or uni, if you can stomach the 15.4" screen size. It does get a bit bulky.

The only issue stopping it from getting 5 stars is the build quality. I've got little bits like the lid release latch and rubber feet falling off, and the volume adjusts when I move or tip the laptop (sometimes when its completely still on a table) because of the ridiculous volume dial. And all this with not even 12 months of usage.

Summary: Reliability of the Acer 5710
Comment: The first thing I did when i bought this laptop was to remove the 2 8 512gb memory cards and upgrade to 2gb. You really need 2gb to enjoy Windows Vista. A few months afterwards I started having trouble with Windows after a failed update. I also noticed that the wireless connection had an annoying tendency to disconnect from the internet without warning requiring a rebot of the system. Finally, after 2 months of enduring, I decided to do a clean install from the Windows Upgrade disc and the laptop works like a charm- sans the crapware that came preinstalled. Some other have suggested you need the Acer Empowering Technology software that comes preinstalled in order to use the laptop. I find this is some additional crapware I can live without. You will lose the use of the top row of buttons on the laptop and a few other functions but Windows Vista is a pretty much rounded OS already. Vista also comes with a basic backup function which works very well for me.

Bottomline, if you are having software problems with this laptop I suggest you backup your documents to DVD or a remote location, wipe the partition c and do a clean install of windows. You will be rewarded with a very stable laptop.

Summary: Acer 5710 Notebook - yes it's a good one.
Comment: I ordered this from Amazon Reseller for family. Excellent service, PC was as described. I use PC's all day and was pleasantly surprised by Vista Premium. The PC boots up quickly and seems responsive. Screen is excellent. Keyboard area is quite spacious and keys feel good. Casing is not super sturdy so will not stand too much presure in a squashed bag so protect it adequately but on the hwole good build and lots of ports. Processor is fast and memory upgrade seems readily available should i find the intergrated graphics is hogging too much memory. Not a full on gamers spec but excellent quality/price for most home users I would say. The 80GB drive might be average for folk who store everything and delete little but I will make DVD Rescue disks and remove the 10GB recovery partition so that will be a useful slice of storage to get back. I am pleased and think Acer has done a good job with this price/spec. Lookslike this model is being replaced but I think the 'gemstone' design of Acer's Aspire range is good, so definitely consider a gemstone version. I will probably tidy up/remove some of the included apps as they take space (e.g. Norton IS) but some users may find them useful if they do not already have similar. Good job Acer and Amazon.

Summary: sister acer laptop 5610
Comment: just been reading the reviews.. as I'm looking to buy another laptop & I was wondering how things have progressed. The write ups are all positive & thats been my finding with the 5610 its predecessor... its been excellent with a good clear screen, superb connectivity, touch sensitive easy to use keyboard.. etc.
The reviews on 5710 are real helpful so therefore I think I'll be buying another Acer for family use. Thanks to everyone who took time to review.
