Summary: Decent Printer
Comment: A good looking, easy to set up and use printer. Having not tested all functions and printing qualities I am holding back on giving the printer 5 stars. For the functions I have used I am very impressed. Have always been a Canon fan for cameras and printing accessories. Easy to change cartridges and fairly cheap.

Summary: This is a warning....do not buy this printer!!!
Comment: After searching for a printer for weeks I was extremely excited when I came across this printer. I read the reviews and thought I had purchased a star quality printer, boi was I WRONG. Don't get me wrong the printer works and does its job, just NOT THAT WELL!

Fristly, the printer in my opinion is slightly too slow for my liking, it takes to long to start up, so if you were in a hurry and running a bit late don't brother printing anything it will just make matters worse. Secondly, after using the printer for about 6weeks the ink needs replacing (and i'm referring to all of them), but the most stressful thing was the fact that it never printed the colour that appeared on the screen. I wasted several papers trying to acheive the correct colour and I've had no luck. Hence the reason why I'm looking at other printers!!

P.S. The scanning software is good but too slow.
The photo options is alright, particulary at reducing red eye's, but apart from that its a no no!!!

Summary: Nearly a nono
Comment: There should be a warning on all scanners that the product of scanning in hard copy photographs will be squat and dumpy people with big bums IF YOU HAVE A WIDE-SCREEN monitor. Do NOT then do what I did and use MS Paint, or some such to elongate the piccies vertically - because they will then look like that when you print them out!!

Just live with them dumpy on-screen (but don't let your wife see herself!) and when you print them out, they'll be fine.

Printer, scanner and photo print is all I would expect, and easy to use for basic stuff. Bit more difficult to understand if you want more complicated stuff - like 'multiple copies being easy to produce separate prints' - eh? All in all a good buy - and Amazon service is tops as always.

Summary: really, really poor photo printing
Comment: Just got my printer and excitedly printed out my first photo, and the quality is absolutely shocking. Dreadful beyond belief. Followed instructions and made adjustments and quality still just as bad. Others have commented on the great quality so I guess I must have just got a dud. Really annoying as I have to wait til Monday and call technical help to try and get this problem sorted out, although I'd tempted to just send it back immediately. I just expected better from Canon. Really disappointed.

Summary: Nice Piece of kit.
Comment: I agree with most of the good points by the other contributors, although I havn't found a fax on my 520!

I did have a small problem when a strip of foam rubber/plastic was ejected with a printed sheet. I rang Canon who said it was a "waste ink absorber" and it was very important and I should contact one of their service companies (the nearest was about 200 miles away and you have to post it to them). I contacted Amazon who said that they would replace the printer. The replacement came the next day and the Parcel Force Driver took the defective one away.

That's what I call service.

Editorial Reviews:

The PIXMA MP520 multifunction printer from Canon combines user-friendliness, speed, printing quality and style to meet all your needs, from deskwork to photo development, at home and in the office. The affordable PIXMA MP520 uses separate ink cartridges (4 different inks) and two independent paper inputs: one rear load (150 sheets) and one forward load (100 sheets). The PIXMA MP520 multifunction printer is easy to use thanks to its 5 cm TFT colour screen and control knob, which let you navigate the menus and print directly from memory cards. Its Canon Fine printer head distributes 2 pl ink droplets, ensuring lab-quality prints in 4800dpi definition. The PIXMA MP520 is also a speedy tool for office work, printing at speeds of 30 ppm in black and 25 ppm in colour. Meanwhile, scanned images appear in 2400x4800 dpi resolution. Finally, the PIXMA MP520 multifunction printer is able to print photos directly from Pictbridge-compatible digital cameras. The compact but versatile PIXMA MP520 is practical for both business professionals and students.
