Customer Rating: Summary: best toy ever Comment: This item is the bast toy i have ever bought and would recommend it to any 1 to buy
Customer Rating: Summary: The best bit of tech I have ever purchased Comment: One word describes this product - awesome!
I got mine back in December and it is just incredible. OK so 16GB is ridiculously small for most people's music appetites but I have learnt to cope with the capacity by unchecking a load of music in iTunes.
A couple of criticisms come to mind, sync times are very slow in comparison to HDD based iPods (I would say roughly 3/4 transfer speed) that can be annoying when you have to reload all your content again. In addition to this you cannot group compilation artists that result in lots of obscure names whilst scrolling through music (if your a dance music fan). These are quibbles however and don;t detract from how good this device is.
The advantages of this however make this device stand out and quash its peers. Wi-Fi and internet browsing are phenomenal. The multi-touch is a joy to use and are unlike anything I have ever seen on anything else - it baically makes the competition look like dinosaurs. Music browsing is really easy and beautiful in cover flow. I find that scrolling through artists is simplist for me but all my mates like CF. I tend to watch lots of videos on the iTouch too and clarity and sharpness are astonishing for such a slender device.
The price has fallen considerably since I bought this and now there is the 32GB version that is tempting. Apple really have produced a device that has it all!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great all rounder Comment: Wife bought me this for my 40th birthday to replace my 30gb video ipod which has been played to death.
Have to say what a fantastic piece of kit, worked effortlessly first time synching all my itunes stuff and selected photos. Bought some music on itunes via my ipod without any fuss. Only thing is like any ipod make sure you get a protector for it as it is a fingerprint magnet. And yes I am a Apple fan, always have been, everything just works effortlessly and the ipod works perfectly with my new imac (5 month old). Recommended.
Customer Rating: Summary: ipod touch rules! Comment: everything about the ipod touch rules. id explain all the features but i think the product description probably does it better than i ever could.
i bought this as a present for my girlfriend for christmas and she loves it.
the device is sleak and shiny, super thin and feels remarkably sturdy for its "8mm thin shell" or whatever gimmicky way apple have of saying how fat it is.
the 16gb flash drive in it doesnt seem to be a problem for her size wise. it still holds plenty of tunes and videos, just it probably wont hold your entire music collection, but itunes is great at organising all of it between your comp and touch. the on screen keyboard takes a bit of getting used to but once you have its very easy to use.
wireless connectivity is a brilliant addition to the web browsing capabilities but no bluetooth means you cant use your touch with your mobile phone for GPRS/3G/HSDPA internet access on the go.
there are only two problems that i have with this device:
1.) it does not support flash so a lot of modern sites wont work with it, especially a lot of you-tube type sites that use flash video, though youtube is supported through its own 'app' individually. apple dont seem to care about flash support either so i wouldnt expect it anywhere in the near future.
2.) the headphone jack and socket are different to normal 3.5mm jacks so a normal set of headphones wont work with this device which makes it a pain in the bum getting it to work with your home stereo without some DIY headphone modding.
Overall though, this device is superb. Beyond original and with the gadgetry and usability that make it a wonder of technology that for its size is ahead of everything else ive seen.
i would say this device could come close to replacing a home computer if you really wanted and could give on a few points.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great digital music player Comment: I spent ages trying to decided what digital music player to get and in the end I was seduced by the iPod Touch
STORAGE 5/5
Space storage isn't such an issue for me since I'm not used to having several gigabytes of music with me. I quite happily fit all the music, video clips and photos I need for work and personal use within 16GB. I suppose the real test will come when I go on holiday and leave the laptop behind but I still think it'll fit enough variety of my media.
USABILITY 5/5
Child's play! Touch screen interface is great. And the "accelerometer" gives you the best options for viewing on a small screen.
APPLICATIONS 4/5
Music app: If you've seen the ad you know what it can do and it's very accurate. Great stuff.
Video app: I love it. So far I've only managed to convert one of my DVDs to watch but I have numerous short clips I can study whilst on the road which is a big bonus for me. There's lots of info online about converting clips for your iPod.
Photo app: Since there's no camera I haven't used this much. But I've created an album to keep a small selection of photos to show friends/family and there's fun in showing them on the iPod Touch.
Syncing for these apps is simple through iTunes and iPhoto on your Mac/PC.
Safari/Youtube/iTunes store
It's great to be able to surf the web and check out Youtube clips when you have wifi access but I've not really found a real functional use for these yet. I really like the usability of zooming in/out on web pages though. Perhaps when I'm holiday and have wifi access in the hotel this will be a big bonus. Syncing your bookmarks through iTunes is also simple.
Other apps (extra £12.99 from iTunes):
I bought this without the software updates since I figured that most of the software requires interent/wifi access anyway. However I ended up getting the updates since I do get a fair amount of free wifi access from locations in London. But so far I've only made use of Mail.
There's great potential for future apps.
OVERALL 4/5
Had a couple of inconvenient buggy, required turn off/on, moments but otherwise I'm happy with my shiny new toy.
ACCESSORIES
Remote control earphones: There aren't any made specifically for the iPod Touch but luckily SOME* remotes made for older iPods will work. I just got an in-Line Remote Control iPod Video/Nano All Generations from Amazon (£5ish inc P&P) and it works great.

The iPod touch is a revolutionary addition to the iPod range! It has a touch interface and the same panoramic screen as the iPhone, as well as a WiFi Internet connection. The iPod touch boasts a multi-touch interface, putting all your music and video files at your fingertips. The iPod touch also has WiFi connectivity so you can instantly access Google, Yahoo! Search and the millions of free videos available on YouTube. Unbelievably slim at just 8mm thick, the iPod touch has a superb 3.5 panoramic screen, which is perfect for watching films or TV programmes and for displaying photos and album covers. The iPod touch is also equipped with an accelerometer, which recognises the position of the player. When the iPod is in music mode, the Cover Flow function automatically displays album covers so you can flip through your music library quickly and easily. The iPod touch also has an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen according to the environment. The iPod touch offers up to 22 hours of audio playback and up to 5 hours' playback in video mode. The iPod touch is set to revolutionise the world of digital music players!
