Customer Rating: Summary: Not Impressed Comment: Had problems connecting to the net after a few weeks. Then the screen went white and red and I now have to pay £174 to get it fixed. So much for a warranty, I would avoid it like the plague.
Customer Rating: Summary: Windows VHP is not enough Comment: Just bought this laptop from Amzaon for my mom so she can chat with us from home.
Laptop is amazing lookwise and featurewise, especially that wonderful webcam. I also got 120 GB HDD with this laptop.
Touchpad is not very smooth & sensitive but bit jerky. Not sure this is laptop or vista's fault.
But overall good machine if you are not using Windows VISTA.
Please keep in mind that VISTA is very hungry OS and Celeron processor is not fast enough and 1 GB RAM is not large enough to run VISTA. I disabled few GUI features from Vista and still memory was 80% full. Still this machine is very slow compared to same celeron running XP.
Also there is a known issue with Yahoo messenger and MSN messenger on VISTA so you can not view other person's webcam. Hopefully updates will come soon for those two most popular messeging tools. I managed to run beta version of yahoo messenger to view other's webcam, but could not manage to run MSN to do the same.
So, if you want decent performance from this machine, install Windows XP or Linux. Not sure if you get webcam driver for linux.
Customer Rating: Summary: Just A Few Questions Comment: I would be looking this laptop for nothing more than surfing the web, sending emails and maybe downloading music and watching a few DVDs. Do not want to pay big money, would this be suitable laptop?
Customer Rating: Summary: highly recommended for first time buyers to lap top purchases Comment: its quiet efficient very straightforward to operate especially if you are new to computers! the windows package is fine for typing letters documents it plays great movies and music on the acer arcade if not windows media play the keyboard keys could be better but considering the fact you can play music dvds photo editing and use it for the office and personal for typing documents emailng and the internet i think its an absolute bargain regarding the keyboard you could always get a wireless one or usb connected i was suprised at the quality of the screen it really is crystal brite and high resolution id seen the computer demo in shops and could not resist purchasing one! the best purchase i made actually money well invested!
Customer Rating: Summary: Good value for money Comment: For a sub £300 laptop I'm very pleased with this. It compares very well with other budget laptops I've used, and the highpoint is the amazing clarity and sparkle of the display. The battery life is good too, giving you more than 2 hours of use when away from a power outlet. Batteries always deteriorate over time, but the power consumption on this laptop is low enough to accommodate this.
The Vista "Basic" OS seems to take quite a long time to load, and the PC sits idle after boot up with quite low system resources remaining. From what I've seen this is more to do with the resource hungry OS rather than the laptop itself. When producing your own back-up of the OS using the inbuilt function it takes 10 blank CDs or 2 blank DVDs, which is quite a shock when you're used to putting an XP back-up on a single CD.
The 5 star rating reflects the sub £300 price tag. Given the demands of Vista I'd recommend spending an extra £50 in the Acer range and getting more memory and disk space.
