Customer Rating: Summary: no support for XP Comment: Since buying this machine, I have been unable to use it, as I need to make it comply with our network running XP Pro. 4 detailed emails to the "support" centre resulted in the final email telling me "As per the terms and conditions of the warranty we only support the OEM version installed NOT any copy you want to install which is why we can not help you to install XP"
Thanks for nothing - and where is this small print on-line? I have recommended to Amazon that this should be stated in the product description, as it is a serious short fall.
I noted one customer has installed linux? If anyone can point me to drivers etc for XP so I can format it and re-load I would be delighted, as acer cant help
Customer Rating: Summary: KP Comment: The only reason I have not given this 5 stars is due to the poor sound quality and volume. Though there is a vast improvement when you plug speakes into it. The 1GB memory is insufficient and the laptop struggles with Vista. I upgraded mine to 2 x 1GB and it has made a significant difference.
Otherwise, the 7520 is an absolute bargain. It feels very good quality and is not too heavy for a 17" laptop. The screen quality and graphics are excellent. The keyboard has is soft touch and gives a positive click.
All in all, a top quality laptop and a ridiculously low price.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good, but not for long. Comment: Bought this from Tesco.I enjoyed using it for about 2 weeks.Vista premium was nice and also the big bright screen was nice to look at.Also liked the card reader facility aswell as the Firewire connection for a camcorder. However I had to send it back as the screen would not stay on.There was a loose connection within the screen itself.Shame because when it worked it was a superb laptop.
Customer Rating: Summary: 5 hours and i sent it back Comment: I brought this laptop as a replacement for a dell and although i have never had an acer computer before i was impressed with the high spec/low price it offered.
my first impression was that it was a bit flimsy, the large (very shiny reflective) screen makes it unbalanced and slightly wobbly even on a flat surface and the dvd drive was even less robust.
I would have accepted these cosmetic faults if the performance had been up to scratch but the AMD processor makes hard work of vista and the sound was abysmal.
By the time it failed to connect to my router and on finding the acer tech support line is a premium rate number i'd had enough.
I cant fault amazons easy to use returns policy which was prompt and efficient.
But the response of the DHL driver when he collected it was the most telling review of all "oh suprise another acer computer".
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Budget 17" Laptop Comment: Brought this laptop a few days ago, and really pleased for the price paid - love the screen! Also took readers advice and opted for a 2 Gb upgrade on the memory which I brought on-line for £40 this has made a decent difference for the money spent (although you don't actually end up with 2 Gb). The only disappointing feature is the poor sound quality, I was expecting some more volume output than it delivers. Only getting about 1-1.5 hrs life out of the battery. Main purpose was to surf the net rather than for gaming and movies and it does that well with very good wireless capability. All in all a brilliant buy. I brought the last one from a Curry's Store who advised that this model is to be discontinued soon?
