Customer Rating: Summary: Nice machine, but terrible quality control Comment: I bought this laptop after seeing a friends in use for 3 months. My friend had no problems, but the one I bought (and its replacement) both had faults and were returned. Amazon's returns policey was very good and I obtained a refund without any hassle.
The moral is, IF YOU BUY ONE - CHECK IT OUT THOROUGHLY; especially the functions that you don't use so often.
Customer Rating: Summary: Remember that HD DVD is now a defunct format Comment: Just to remind buyers that support for HD DVD is now being cancelled and no new films are being released using HD-DVD as Blu-ray has won the format wars- you will probably have to replace the drive if you want to continue to watch HD films on this laptop
Customer Rating: Summary: Superb Comment: Wow. Did not know a laptop could be this fast. I have bought this to replace my desktop and it is far superior. mind you having a touchpad instead of a mouse makes it difficult playing games so I had to buy a micro mouse.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great laptop - as long as your hard drive doesn't die Comment: Much has been said in other reviews of this laptops looks and features. It's all true - it looks good and runs well. I even like the keyboard - I don't believe to be cheap/spongy as mentioned in another review.
Battery life is OK - but you'll get much less than the two hours mentioned in other reviews if you do anything more than look at the nice bright display. I typically get just over an hour in active use.
I do have one niggle with the machine - and that is the rather noisy fan that kicks in as soon as you ask the machine to do anything other than idle. It's not too loud, but the constant starting and stopping of the fan does become quite irritating. (Contrast with the HP laptop I use for work which is silent all day.)
Where this machine really falls down is the fact that it is not supplied with a Windows installation disk; you must burn recovery discs from a hidden partition on the primary disk. However, these recovery disks are not bootable and therefore will not allow you to re-install Windows to a replacement disk if the original disk fails outside warranty. Acer do SELL bootable recovery discs for £50. Acer refuse to issue genuine Windows installation disks. Acer's customer support over this issue has been extremely poor. Next time I'll go back to good old Dell.
Customer Rating: Summary: great desk top replacement Comment: fantastic buy very pleased with everything about this laptop not to bothered about size weight etc its a great desk top replacement simple as that
