Customer Rating: Summary: Poor Bluetooth & Battery life Comment: Upgraded to this model from my old original tomtom one, found a few issues:
1.Internal speaker is not as crisp or clear as the tomtom one
2.Battery life is 90 minutes at most
3.Bluetooth handsfree is a joke, even at full volume you can hardly hear the caller above road noise
4.On battery power, after about 40 minutes the speaker starts to crackle for no apparent reason, this is rectified by changing to external power
5.The new style suction mount is a joke, its tiny, has a habit of falling off and is pretty hard to position as there is no movable arm as such.
The only reason I never gave this one star was because outwith these points above, its a typical, Tomtom unit, great maps, good up to date speedcams, easy to use and 99.5% accurate
Customer Rating: Summary: I love this device! Comment: This is my first ever satnav - and I am really happy with it!.
The main thing is that if you should deviate from the route given, it will very quickly pick up on this, and recalculate the route, getting you back on track. Very useful if you are in an unfamiliar area.
The spoken voice is certainly loud enough to hear out of the speaker on the satnav when on the motorway, although you can tune it in to your stereo and have it come out of your car speakers (or via an audio cable if you have an auxiliary socket in your car).
It bleeps at you if you're driving too fast on a particular road (should you select it to) and warns you of upcoming speed cameras (again, should you select it to).
Every time you connect it to your computer, you can update the information on it, so it is as up to date as you want it to be. If you notice an error on the TomTom map, you can even report and correct this with TomTom - including adding any missing points of interest that you feel should be on there.
It is certainly worth taking the time to get to know this machine before you use it, as it will do an awful lot of stuff (including being used as an MP3 player or allowing you to make and receive calls on your mobile via bluetooth whilst driving).
The battery life isn't so great so you will have to charge it quite soon after using it on a journey of a couple of hours, but it does come with a car charger so no real problems with this.
I am really happy with my TomTom and, despite all the stories I have heard about inaccuracies of directions, it has been spot-on for me so far.
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't buy if you have a Mac Comment: Do not buy this product if you have a Mac as the support team only have Windows tools to fix problems. I bought a new map but after installing it the device is "unable to store settings: file access error". The only solution from TomTom is to plug the device into a Windows PC and run a Windows exe. So I'm stuck with a device that either won't work or works with an out-of-date map. AVOID.
Customer Rating: Summary: Superb to use Comment: This was my second unit - the first one had a fight with my mac and lost! There is nothing to warn you that if you connect it to the mac software before you have turned it on, it will get stuck on the splash screen with no way to fix it. I sent it back but aware that I had just been unlucky, i later ordered another one and tried again. This time I have connected it to the computer only to charge it but havent actually used the software on it - after all it has all the maps on it already.
Its a joy to use compared to other systems. No buttons, everything is touch screen with large simple menu icons. The hands free works well, connected instantly with my sony ericsson k700 but the real delight us the ipod connectivity and wireless transmission. Just a matter of plugging in the ipod and selecting a few preferences the first time, and tuning your radio into the frequency it suggests and instantly all your tracks are playing through your stereo speakers - really clearly as well. Songs carry on shuffling or working off playlists while the map view is showing, or if you know where you are going you can switch to song view for onscreen access to what's playing.
Am very happy with this product. Does all the route stuff you'd expect plus handles my calls and texts and serves up all my music and in a unit that has a great design and build quality feel to it. Highly recommended, although mac users: switch it on and set it up BEFORE connecting it to the computer software.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great gadget, works with my iPhone, shame about customer services Comment: I bought my Tomtom Go 520 and was pretty impressed. Works very well and is simple to use (no need to read the instructions). Managed to connect it to my iPhone to make and receive handsfree calls albeit after a few teething troubles - for some reason the sound on my tomtom was a bit temperamental at first but that seems to have been fixed now and it works fine.
Have linked it up to my iPod and the quality of sound is much better than I expected. Did not manage to get it to play via my FM transmitter but my radio is very old and crackly so the poor sound could be due to my radio and not the tomtom.
Would definitely recommend and think it is good value at that price (considering you get a large screen tomtom, iPod player and handsfree kit).
Customer services are slightly rude and unhelpful. They refused to help me when I couldn't get any sound out of my tomtom because I was trying to connect it to an "incompatible phone". Luckily the problem was resolved without them.
