Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent for its purpose Comment: Excellent 160 Gb of extra HD memory. Transferring files to this for backing up seems to be nearly as quick as using the integral Vista HD on my laptop. It is automatically, and quickly, recognised and works happily on both XP and Vista using only the USB connection; no extra power needed. My clutch of small (1 Gb and 2Gb) USB Flash Drives have almost become redundant. Customer Rating: Summary: It's A Kinda Magic Comment: I would recommend this to any grey-haired technophobe like me. You plug it in and it works straight away; no software, no setting up. Copied the entire contents of my computer within 20 minutes. Sorted. Customer Rating: Summary: Simplicity itself Comment: The manual, which (apart from a few pictures on a folding sheet) is on the cd, is very basic and quite clear once you realise that the stuff at the end about moving partitions and formatting is for people who enjoy making life difficult. The equipment is very tidy (as in the illustration on the website), light and compact. Setting up is simplicity itself. The lead plugs into the computer's usb port and a hole in the end of the drive, Vista recognises what it is and says that it's ready for use, and away you go. I have only used drag & drop to transfer files so far but presumably Windows can be scheduled to back up automatically if that takes your fancy. The manual is silent on this point. I was irritated when I read in the manual that, if the machine cannot draw enough power from the computer (via the usb port) a special Freecom "optional" power lead must be obtained ~ it's hardly optional if the damn thing won't work without it ~ but mercifully mine ran nicely off the usb. This is exactly what I wanted, the price was good (cheaper than Maplin) and it does the job. Customer Rating: Summary: Long time Freecom user! Comment: My 3rd Freecom hard drive and have no issues so far with any of them. This one was super cheap and works without fault. Transfer speed on USB2.0 was good considering the unit is entry level. Recommended if you're looking for a good entry level drive. There is now a 320GB version of this drive available (£74.99 on Amazon, search for 30722) Customer Rating: Summary: A great product for the price Comment: I wanted a reasonable priced external hard drive to back up my files and those important photos. The drive is compact and silent and looks very smart in all black with a blue light. No power lead is required as it runs from my USB2 port on my laptop. The USB lead supplied is short, but long enough to sit out of the way. Plugged it in and Windows vista found it instantly and was then available to drag and drop files.
