Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic camera Comment: I have owned this camera for 6 months and use it take pictures of my son playing Rugby and now no other camera is good enough.
It's excellent and if you reduce pictures to 5 Megapixel you get 23x Optical zoom which is simply superb in sport mode. Also, unlike some top end SLR's you can follow the action on the LCD and then take the picture which is much better than squinting your eye into a little viewfinder. I have lost count of the people with proper SLR's who moan about that.
If you buy an extreme memory card you will be able to take 5 very quick multi shot pictures in burst mode so you can catch the action pictures that you would normally have lost. My only criticism is the screen does go blank while picture is taken but that may be because I haven't worked out how to stop it.
Don't forget it is also a video camera with sound too and it works extremely well apart from the fact that the zoom is fixed as soon as you start recording so you have to use a bit of judgment in advance of filming.
I can get great portrait shots of my son from a distance (why do they allways hide or pull a silly face when they see the camera?)and this keeps the missus happy too. All I have to do is stop him deleting them now.
Lastly, if you change to 5 Megapixel you can squeeze an impressive 90x zoom using the digital extended zoom and still get good pictures. I took a picture of the moon the other day, full screen and you can actually see the craters, don't ask why, just because I could.
Fully recommend buying this camera, for this kind of money you can't fail.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fab camera Comment: Does what it says on the box! Ordered Monday, arrived Wednesday. I'm not very knowledgable about cameras but this takes great pictures. Have taken photos of a baby, panoramic & night-time. They all look good! Buy if you can.

Panasonic DMC-FZ18 packs an incredible 18x optical zoom that fits in the palm of your hand. From vast landscapes to super telephoto shots, the Panasonic FZ18 gives you crisp, stunning images using a 28mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens. For macro shots, the wide-angle setting lets you shoot all the way down to one centimeter from your subject, while the telephoto setting can be used up to one meter (3.28 feet) from your subject. With the Extended Optical Zoom function, zoom power is boosted to around 28.7x (in 3-megapixel resolution mode).
