Customer Rating: Summary: Not easy to install Comment: A nice cheap printer but not easy to install.
If you are computer savvy then you should be ok with installing this printer. If not, you may want to avoid unless you know someone that can help you.
There are three times as many steps than there should be in the installation instructions. You don't insert the installation CD until Step 13! I spent over an hour on the phone explaining to my father how to install the printer on an XP computer. The installer software is far too complex. It even gives you an error report each time it fails, although what use that is to the non-IT user I don't know.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic Little Printer Comment: I have just purchased this for £29.99 from Sainsburys and am extremely pleased with it. I purchased it as a replacement for an Epson DX7400 which was blooming awful. The cartridges in it only printed about 40 pages before they ran out, so I purchased compatible ones, only for the DX7400 not to recognises them. I have now seen sense and gone back to HP. I have always used HP printers and always been extremely happy with them, and although the original ink is expensive I have usually found them to last a very long time. It is also very small so it fits into my PC desk no problem. Very pleased with the results. Excellent quality.
Customer Rating: Summary: Perfection at £30 Comment: Hewlett-Packard have once again created a very successful all-in-one, and for under £30 you can not complain.
My respects go to the previous reviewer Marko, however I had no trouble at all in setting up this printer using the accompanying software via CD-ROM on XP. Indeed I found the whole experience in setting up a pleasure, and had a working printer connected up within ten minutes.
It is true that this printer is not extremely fast; with a black and white print-out taking approximately twenty seconds, however if you want a fast photo printer users should be looking at more up market products. The truth of the matter is this printer / all in one will produce excellent documentation print-outs and is extremely quick and useful at scanning and copying using the provided software and applications.
My only complaint, I was under the impression this unit would come with ALL of the required leads to connect to the computer system, however I was required to purchase a separate USB lead to connect the printer to my computer, setting me back £5. Otherwise this is a very neat little printer perfect for occasional printing. As a student, I find this printer invaluable.
Customer Rating: Summary: Slow printer, awful/non-existent software Comment: Despite having a background in IT support, it took me 2 hours to get the software to install correctly on XP, but the software simply does not install on W2K Pro despite the printer supposedly supporting this platform. The CD goes through the motions and finishes with a success screen, but there are no icons, and the software left on your hard drive omits those apps that were left on the XP machine, so you can't even create your own shortcuts. After 4.5 hours, I gave up. I shan't bother to explain the hoops I had to jump through to get it working on XP, and how poor the software is. Very disappointing because if I wanted a printer, I'd only buy HP, but the hardware is seriously slow (scans/copies at about 1cm/sec after buzzing and grinding for 20+ seconds) and the software's a joke.
