Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent build quality for the price. Comment: Bought this to use as an introductory camcorder to film our newborn Son. The quality of manufacture is clear, and the optical zoom amazing for the price. Very clear picture quality and a breeze to hook up to a Vista PC for editing via Windows Moviemaker.
This is a highly recommended entry level unit - so it makes a slight humming noise (motor); but this doesn't impact on the playback. You wouldn't take your car back because the engine hums! Deal with it.

Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent product. One can't go far wrong with Sony. Comment: An excellent camera at an excellent price. For the semi-casual user such as myself this is a great product. Dead simple to use when you want to just get something down on film, but you can also use the provided software to get a little more clever. Not only that, but it's compact. Really very compact. I couldn't quite believe it when I opened the box and it came out. Things have moved on so much even in the last couple of years. For the money, this is a great little video camera, and well worth it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Motor noise ruins an otherwise great camcorder Comment: Positives
- Excellent nightvision mode
- Great colours
- One of the best optical zooms I have seen on a home camcorder
- Long battery life
Negatives
- Motor noise (a constant humming sound from the motor makes filming in quiet locations impossible. I was going to put up with it, but was just too loud which has forced me to return it).

Sony brilliantly combines top quality performances and user-friendliness with the DCR-HC51! It's incredibly easy to get great results with the DCR-HC51, because it comes with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens that captures contrast and colours for natural-looking images. Its Advanced HAD CCD sensor and 40x optical zoom allow you to get up close to your subjects without losing any quality, and its Easy Handycam function changes the camcorder?s settings to automatic mode, making it easy for beginners to use. All of the DCR-HC51?s features are directly accessible on its 2.5? screen. The DCR-HC51 is also equipped with a full range of connections, so you can watch your home videos on your computer or television, and video quality can be improved using its image stabiliser, windbreak filter and pre-set modes. Sony has certainly achieved its goal with flying colours with the DCR-HC51!

If you need more versatility in your iPod speaker system, Gear4's Duo could be the answer. Its large subwoofer gives warmth to its bright sound, but its mid-range drivers and two tweeters are mounted in a portable, magnetic front section that can be unclipped -- very handy indeed

Sometimes all you want -- and frankly, need -- is a phone that does the basics and does them well. Finding a simple phone can be surprisingly difficult, but we think Alcatel might be on to something with its OT-S120. It'll be available on a high street near you for under £20 very soon
