Summary: Works for me
Comment: I got myself a 42" Samsung plasma and was really disappointed about how bad DVDs looked on it, with all the pixelating when there was a bit of action. I really did wonder if it had been worth getting rid of my old CRT TV, which had a great picture. Then I saw these HDMI upscaling players and thought it was worth a chance, after all it was under £50. So I plugged it into the big screen, hooked it up to my surround sound system and put in a DVD. The improvement in picture quality was certainly worth the price and now I don't even have to think about going HD/Blu-ray, which is just as well with the number of DVDs I have. It does what it's supposed to and doesn't take up a lot of space either. If I could have got it to be multi-region it would have been a 5 star.

Summary: Yep it's good real good
Comment: I have a Samsung tv one of those 720p ones so thought to myself, no good buying a blue ray cos it's at it's best on 1080p tv. Mmm, maybe an upscaler would do the trick to get me some high def thingy. Well people this is the kiddy what a difference it made upscaling me ordinary dvd's.
Saved meself a whole bunch of money and got a class machine that makes me tv look awesome. I am no techno buff as you can tell and don't want to spend tumps trying to keep up with all this fast moving technology, so this will see me for a while until everything packs in and I move onto whatever comes next. A superb buy at less than fifty quid. Oh and it looks good too ! All modern an all !

Summary: Great Upscaler - Region hack does not work
Comment: I am very pleased with the quality of the picture on my HD TV, its hard to imagine forking out for Blu-ray after seeing this.

Slight niggles regarding this player -

It makes a bizarre high pitched 'toot' sound when you switch it on and off, I cannot understand the thinking behind this, it's just annoying.

Multi region hack code shown in another review does not work on the machine I received. I have looked at countless hack code sites and I do not seem to be the only person with this problem.

For £50 it is a real bargain. Go for the 51 pence HDMI cable also available on Amazon, works well.

Summary: JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH SAMSUNG!
Comment: Just unboxed this little puppy to complement the imminent arrival of my 32" samsung hd ready tv and WOW the looks of this dvd player are stunning the glossy finish makes you just want to stroke the top all day,now I simply can't wait to see the result of the upscaling effect of my dvd collection I have build over the previous 6 years only viewed on a bog standed 21" trinitron and a scart connected dvd player.Although the remote control is small it's buttons are clearly placed out so you should'nt need to waste much time reading the instuctions what the varios buttons are as most of us are bright enough to know anyway. This sat just underneath my telly will look stunning, also the service provided by amazon was spot on,as a new customer I did'nt know what to expect by ordering such as electric's online but arrived exactly when amazon said it would in perfect condition no more argos etc for me.

Summary: NICE DESIGN, NICE DVD PLAYER
Comment: I bought this DVD recently to compliment my Samsung 2032 MW TV/monitor.

Very nice design. Small and compact and the DVD player is very quiet.

My only gripe is the remote is too small; you need baby fingers to operate!

To make multi-regional try this with DVD on but no DVD in machine:

Press "Repeat" - button 6
Press 5 7 5 3 8

Your Region should appear in top left of screen i.e. number 2 for Europe.

Press 9
Press "Repeat" - button 6

Switch off and turn on.

You should be able to play Region 1 i.e. US DVDs.

It works on mine!!!! :O)

Editorial Reviews:

The DVD-F1080 DVD player from Samsung answers all your needs with its minimalist design and maximum power! It can play several formats, including DivX and MPEG4 files among others, and thanks to its HDMi connection, it can play your films in high definition by upscaling standard 480p discs to up to 1080p! Its slim, square form and touch-sensitive buttons give it an elegant and modern design that will fit in even the smallest spaces!
