Summary: It does do multi region
Comment: Nice little player, this one. Good picture quality, good sound and you can make it multi region. The instructions in the other review are correct except you need to press info to get rid of the text in the top left corner.

Only two little criticisms, neither of which are important. The remote is a little small and fiddly and the player makes a shrill bleep when you turn it on, which is a little annoying.

Overall, a great little unit and highly recommended

Summary: Smart, Small and Stylish
Comment: This DVD player is pretty good. I was looking for one just the right size and bought because of a lack of options rather than selective comparison. I couldn't find any 'compact' DVD players worthy of being connected to my Bravia 32" - other than this that is. I have not experienced the line at the bottom of the screen which other reviewers have mentioned and I cannot vouch for the multi-region capability because I have no need for it.

One interesting feature of this player is that when connected via a HDMI cable (I have ont used any other connections so cannot say whether this is true of all cable connections) if you navigate away from your DVD AV channel with the DVD on pause, the player will stop the DVD - saving your position so pressing play will be like doing it from pause - instead of leaving the disc indefinitly spinning until you come back.

Overall this DVD player catered for all my needs. It is small enough to fit on a shelf away from my wall mounted TV - using a longer HDMI cable this will free up more space. The resolution has convinced me to wait until Blue Ray is much cheaper.

I have chosen 4 Stars only becuase I have not pushed it to its full extent; i.e, the multi-region setup or different format support which it claims to have.

Great piece of hardware.

Comment: Bought from Amazon and look good and the picture l would say is no different from most standard £60 DVD players. Be warned if you buy one used/like new, you may not get a remote nor do their tell you you're not getting the remote.

Summary: Samsung F1080 upscaler
Comment: After reviewing upscailing dvd players for a week or so i finally settled on this little belter. Very straight forward to set up and soon had diehard 4 on my panasonic th37px80b. The picture was astounding very crisp and great image detail. I will not be buying a blu-ray player now ive got this. The only reason i never gave this unit 5 stars is that when you use the touch sensitive keys it makes a high pitch beep, which i cant work out for the life of me why samsung would include this feature and not allow you to disable this in the set up menu. That said your not going to be pressing buttons throughout the film are you. Had the sound (digital output) to my pure digi theater 5.1 surround sound system and sound is as good as anything i have heard. Bass verygood response and speech nice and clear. If you have just purchased a hd tv and the wife would hit the roof at the mere mention of purchasing a blu-ray player then this is the ideal solution, i promise you wont feel like you have compromised.

Editorial Reviews:

The DVD-F1080 DVD player from Samsung answers all your needs with its minimalist design and maximum power! It can play several formats, including DivX and MPEG4 files among others, and thanks to its HDMi connection, it can play your films in high definition by upscaling standard 480p discs to up to 1080p! Its slim, square form and touch-sensitive buttons give it an elegant and modern design that will fit in even the smallest spaces!
