Great first sat-nav! October 5, 2009 Mr. D. J. Witt 64 out of 64 found this review helpful
This is a great sat-nav for those who have never had one before and just want something entry-level and cheap (like me). It always finds good satellite signal and gets you where you want to go. The screen is bright, clear and easy to understand. The voice instructions can seem a little blunt and to the point, but it is functional and you can always customise various features or add maps using the memory card slot. The only real problems are problems that you can aim at all sat-nav's in general. The source of any error is likely to come from human input or the mapping not being quite up-to-date (although the maps have been fine for me so far). Also the way small sections of a route are planned, particularly on short journeys can seem a little strange, but often this is down to the coldly logical way a computer thinks, and still works perfectly well, it just provokes a "that's not how I would have done it" reaction from the user. Overall, this is a good, slim, lightweight, and functional entry into the world of satellite navigation and is highly recommended for those reasons. 5 stars!
Good Value, Does What It Says On The Tin :) December 10, 2009 Mr. L. Richards (London, UK) 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
I bought this SatNav for my sister and wanted one that did not have all the bells and whistles (Bluetooth, MP3, Text2Speech etc.) but still gave good clear directions and was easy to use. I personally own a Nuvi300 and hence my choice of another Nuvi.
Compared to my model the unit is much better looking, and now has the GPS antenna integrated into the unit, instead of being a "flap" at the back, this is really good. The memory expansion slot is now also Micro SD instead of SD, another improvement. The box contained instructions, the car mounting kit and charger, all really easy to understand.
The unit works from the go, a few seconds to switch on, nice big icons to choose either a new location or a previous one. The postcode search is the easiest method to find your way and works flawlessly. The sound is clear and instructions are easy to understand. The screen is bright and colourful (changing to night mode in darkness) and gives good clear indication of where you are on the road. Finally it features a usefull POI search for nearby shops/petrol stations/restaurants etc.
In summary, if you are looking for a SatNav that is intended to get you quickly to your destination without all the "extra" features, but still want good quality and usability, then I would recomend this to you. It does exactly what it was intended to do, and has a couple of nice little features too.
Easy to use! November 1, 2009 queenbee65 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
This sat nav is very easy to use, and good value for money.
You can't pick the voice, but does that really matter? Directions are clear, and points of interest is useful.
Very quick, hardly any start up needed before you can use it.
Great entry level sat nav at a great price November 19, 2009 Z. Cooper 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
After weeks of trying to use sat nav software with my iphone I decided to go for this dedicated sat nav option - compared to the sometimes unusable iphone (i was using copilot) this garmin is just fantastic. It does exactly what is meant to, and does it without any fuss.
The iphone just doesn't have the GPS strength to handle driving around London - it would lose signal all the time, couldn't even find my location often, and would take an age to recalculate routes. The Garmin just gets on with it and is really easy to use.
At this price it is a bargain - obviously if you want newer features this isn't for you, but it does everything I need - has speed camera warnings (need to sign up for updates), pretty good POI database, stores favourite locations, and locates and route finds quickly.
Very pleased with this product!
Review of Sat nav July 5, 2010 Camper1 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought this sat nav after much deliberation. Used on a long trip to the West Country. Very simple and straight forward to use. Like its smallness yet big enought to read. I would recommend that you know roughly where you are going however as it does send you off on routes that are perhaps not the quickest but I think that this is would apply for sat navs in general and not unique to this one. Recommend that you also have a map book and do know the general directions and perhaps split the journey when using the sat nav into places en-route. Hasn't got any all singing and dancing gismos but a great first buy and really pleased that I bought it. Also seems to come with a 1 year guarantee also which is a positive.
