Another excellent Squeezebox product October 12, 2009 Duncan Heavisides (Wolverhampton, UK) 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
I'm a big fan of Logitech's Squeezebox products, so when the Radio was announced I was keen add one to my collection.
Straight out of the box the Squeezebox Radio looks well made , compact and well thought-out and after entering my network details it was quickly up and running.
Sound quality is excellent, similar to that produced by the Squeezebox Boom (although the Radio is mono), with nicely balanced treble and bass.
One of the great benefits of the Squeezebox products is their ability to play a wide variety of file formats, including FLAC and WMA Lossless, ideal for those looking to maintain a high quality digital music collection. This is where the only problem I have encountered occurred, when playing WMA Lossless files the radio has to constantly re-buffer, making listening almost impossible, FLAC files are however fine. This issue is easily resolved by logging on to the Logitech site and following the instructions to download and install LAME which limits the bit-rate at which tracks are played.
Internet radio is excellent, with very little delay experienced and really easy to use. Some of the plug-ins such as Alien BBC and BBCi Player, don't yet work with the Radio's firmware however I would imagine that this won't take long to be updated.
Overall the Squeezebox Radio is excellent and I would have no hesitation in recommending it. Any issues are only minor and as the firmware is regularly updated, should be resolved quickly.
Squeezebox - I love it March 23, 2010 W. Parke 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Logitech Squeezebox Radio is a great addition to the Squeezebox range. Such an easy way to listen to the radio or any of your own music. The sound is rich and can easily fill most rooms, even a noisy kitchen. The display is a great addition so you get a clear visual indication of what you are listening to. With various plug ins, including displaying picture libraries it provides a range of possibilities. The display provides a clear view of the menus for setting up and makes the controls easy to use. The size is very convenient to put on any desk or worktop so you can your music wherever you go.
As a fan of the Squeezebox Boom I was a little dubious but gave it a try - not disappointed. I love it.
Simple, stylish, great March 20, 2010 Billyboots (England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a really good product.
It was very easy to set up and the functionality is brilliant. My old, bulky midi system has gone and so have the racks of CDs in the lounge.
I mostly use it for listening to my own music - which I do much more now thanks to the ease of use of the Squeezebox radio. It takes seconds to select an album, or artist, or year to listen to and then I just set it to 'random play' and off we go. I am listening to all my music that was released in 1992 as I write this.
Another feature I use a lot is playlists. They are easy to set up on the PC and "send" to the Squeezebox. I have a 'lively' playlist for when I need to get things done, a 'quiet' playlist for relaxing, a 'kids' playlist for my daughter etc etc.
Also, getting regional radio stations from other parts of the country is fantastic. I live in the East of England now but can listen to Radio Bristol on football match days and get all the latest news (and sometimes live commentary) from my home club.
Overall - A great product that is versatile and easy to use. Great sound quality too. My wireless signal reaches the garden so I can plug in my Squeezebox on an extension cable and listen to the whole of my music collection outside too. Brilliant.
Wow, how did I not know about this before. October 15, 2009 M. Smith 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
My DAB radio died so I was in need of a replacement.
All I can say is thank god I saw this before I brought another DAB radio. This is an phenomenal piece of kit when compared to previous radio. Not only does this make DAB radio obsolete it completely obliterates it.
I have coupled mine up with a nas drive so I can listen to my entire music collection on it as well as ten thousand plus radio stations.
The build quality is excellent, as you would expect from logitech, the sound although not hifi quality, is still very good. The device is very portable and quite straight forward to use. You can also control it remotely from your computer which is pretty cool.
Brilliant piece of kit November 16, 2009 James G 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm a big fan of the Squeezebox franchise owning both a Boom and a Squeezebox Classic.
The radio should take music streaming to the masses.
It's easy to set up, though a bit fiddly with the dial to sign up to mysqueezebox.com. I'm an existing member so wasn't too bad.
As soon as you've signed up it then searches for a wireless network and tries to connect to your PC.
Note, you need to install the Squeezebox software on your PC before you can get going with this, you can download the latest version (7.4.1 at the time of writing) from their website. This again is a doddle to use, just scan your music and you're ready to go.
Once set up, you're ready to go. The sound quality is great for a mono system.
You can set up favourite internet stations very easily, and if you have a Facebook account, choose to view your news or photos as a screensaver.
If you have another Squeezebox, a great feature is the sync option which plays the same music, so if you're having a party you can have the same music pipe through your rooms.
I would seriously recommend this product, the price is competitive and you get a lot in your little box - though why no batteries are included I don't know.
I'm a little anal about my music collection and before the radio arrived took the time to 'tag' all my music properly using a free software called MP3Tag.
Squeezeboxes display the artist and title by default, so if that information is missing from your music file it can be somewhat irritating. Plus MP3Tag is great for getting missing artwork, and as the screen is so beautiful, why not utilise it to it's potential!
I would recommend undertaking this exercise first to save the potential frustration
