 Stylish, ergonomic, fast and fun to use January 21, 2010

Bought this after some tepid experiences with Toshiba laptops (6 years) and Acer (3 years). Wanted to try something new but an established brand. The laptop is everything I say in t he title: stylish, ergonomic, fast and fun to use.
I especially like...
the keyboard, which is quite mac like and very responsive
the shape and colour: nice lines
the position of the fan: stops it from getting blocked by duvet
touch pad: it is textured and feels easier to control than other laptops I have tried
the poweroff button (used as standby for quick power offs and power ups)
start up time is very short
widescreen
windows 7, which is a huge improvement in terms of multitasking
Things I do not like:
The touch pad buttons put up a lot of resistence to being pressed, and in general do not inspire me with much confidence
Why do manufacturers clog up your brand new system with such crappy software? Did I really need microsoft works for example?

First of all excellent service from Amazon.
This Laptop ticks all the boxes for a general purpose laptop. High quality, good looks, great screen. Don't get too bogged down by poor battery performance reviews on laptops they will all be about the same (2-3 hours) depending on what you are doing - if you need longer battery life then you really need to go for laptops targetted at that but there will be compromises - as for us we have electricity at home. I have had several laptops over the years and for the price you won't be dissapointed with this. We got this for our teenage daughter for schoolwork etc. and she is delighted. There is a lot of talk about laptop specs out there but basically if you are a serious gamer then your probably not looking at this one anyway, if you want the battery to last 7+ hours you don't want to look at this (or any other laptop with same spec for that matter), if you want a good, solid, affordable laptop to use as a home laptop you will not be dissapointed. For home use you can spend more for speed you won't notice and features you'll never use.

Initially, i had a little trouble with the order of this product, it went missing in transit. however a quick call to amazon and 24 hours later it turned up. its fantastic. speedy, nice finish, good memory size, long lasting battery, easy keyboard, they keys are raised and seperated so its easy to type. the only bad thing is lack of information inside initial unit. eg i still can not find where the camera is and how to work it even though its integrated. overall im very very happy and wlll worth the money.
EDITED REVIEW -- After writing the above review i have decided to edit my comments. this laptop had a scratch on the screenand, after having this laptop for around 2 days i am experiencing some problems, some of the programmes are not working, error upon error, i have contacted amazon who want me to send it back to them (what a fuss) they wont send a new one out as the already sent two (the first one being lost in transit somewhere) i have contacted sony and various windows experts which whom are all unavailable, amazon cant help except offer a refund, well i need a laptop and no one is itching to help. i am left thoroughly dissapointed, generally it was good, i may ust have a dud machine but the experience has put me off from ordering expensive items online, however all in all it wouldve been easier to pay an extra 10 pounds go to a store and be able to return it and get a replacement the same day should there be a problem.

I am writing this review after having the laptop for a week, so fingers crossed my opinion will be the same in months to come!
This laptop is amazing! I absolutely love it! As my first laptop the price is very good and for a sony vaio the price is even better! The lined finish of the laptop prevents visible finger prints and the texture of the mousepad reduces this too. After some deliberation as to whether the mousepad would be too different for my liking i decided to forget about minor details and get the laptop, and i'm glad with my decision! The keyboard is the nicest feature as it is like those on the apple mac's - without the price! The laptop is not the stereotypical carry-around laptop but the screen size seems smaller in real life and the weight of the machine is sturdy; yet not too heavy to carry around. My only minor problem is the battery life. On the sony website it claims it to be around 4hrs, yet in reality after a night of charging it lasts 2 hrs max with internet and itunes open. This is the only problem, but apart from that it's great!
I would recommend this to any user!

Excellent machine, a big improvement on my old laptop. Easy to set up, including the WiFi connection, which I had worried would take me a lifetime to do. Good size screen with very clear graphics and very easy to use. So good in fact I bought it twice as the first one was stolen!
