5 out of 5 stars Forerunner 205   May 27, 2008

I've only had the watch for a week but it's definately 5 star. You wont get a better unit for the money.

If you want a reliable, easy to use, running watch that tells you how far you've gone, how fast you're going and how long you've taken, you don't need anything else. The fact that it also has various training programmes, virtual training partner, calories burned and an elevation tracker is a bonus.

If you want to spend a lot more money, there are better watches. But for me (an experienced runner covering up to 40miles/week) I don't need anything else.

Garmin Forerunner 205 - GA52I have had mine for a week and have found it is fantastic. I have run 5 marathons, countless half-marathons and now, at the age of 78, I walk some 130 miles a month. How I wish I had had this when training for my marathons. Read the blurb and you will see only a small proportion of what it can do. Three screens, each of which can have a variable number of panels. The display is really clear, even to my aging eyes. My only complaint is that the manual could be clearer and fuller. But if you are computer literate, there should not be any difficulty.

By way of background I'm a part time runner, prone to injury and generally a gadget freak. Bought the original Timex Speed & Distance monitor when it was released as with family commitments I struggle to get to club or track sessions and thought it would be a useful alternative. Where the Timex didn't really hit the mark for this purpose the Garmin does. The realtime feedback is great, particularly the virtual partner. The course and interval options work well, there are nice touches like auto lap and size wise it's no problem. Where I would be concious of wearing the Timex receiver I happily wear this every run.

The bundled software is functional and useful rather than elaborate and could easily be enhanced with more features. The cynic in me says it's so Garmin can on sell the Motion Based monthly service:). So three weeks in I'm still exploring new ways of using it and all in all very pleased. Now wish I'd gone for the 305 for the heart rate monitor as well.

5 out of 5 stars Thr brilliant Garmin Forerunner 205   May 25, 2009

I brought the Forerunner 205 to train for my local half marathon. Downloading my training sessions, I could visually see where I slow, where I was fast and which average speed I could maintain. It allowed me to know how far if I was running on a new route and plan when to head back home. On the day of the half marathon, it stopped me setting off too fast and helped me notice when my speed was dropping off. The signal reception is superb with no loss of signal under tress and the display is clear and large enough to read when running. I was worried that the Forerunner looked bulky in the photos but when it arrived it was really lightweight and you do not notice it when running. This is the next best investement I have made in my training after decent running shoes. The Forerunner has so many features I have not used them all yet, for example, when walking, running or cycling you can set a GPS location to return to should you get lost. There are other nice features like being able to personalise the display to show the data you want on up to 3 different screens that can be scrolled through by a single button press or automatically. The auto pause feature stops the timer if you stop running or cycling. Your route can be downloaded directly into popular running websites where your route can be shown in a map or satelite view. The forerunner is a serious piece of kit!

Great device...fits well, quick instructions make it so easy to use, does make you a bit obsessive about constantly looking at your pace( and often being a bit disappointed you're not as quick as you thought!) but certainly helps you formulate an improved run, i can run further because it's helped sort my pacing out...much improvement. i am sure all runners would benefit from it's use. Makes you a bit competitive!!
