Summary: easy and cheap, great combination
Comment: All I wanted was a basic wireless router that would allow me to keep my hard line connection with my desktop and offer a wireless connection for my laptop. This product offered both at a very cheap price. There aren't many frills but I didn't need any.

I have Comcast High Speed Internet and they basically contend that they should be called for any installation. I decided to give it a try myself and it took me a total of 10 minutes to set up this device (twenty if you include moving junk around on my desk and moving plugs in my surge protector to make room :-) ). The installation CD walked me right through the set up process and it worked beautifully. My desktop is still connected via Ethernet and my laptop connected immediately. Security set up was a breeze as well.

I am well satisfied with this product. It works beautifully with Vista (my desktop is 32 bit Vista, my laptop is 64 bit). I definitely recommend this wireless router to anyone looking for a basic device with a quick set up.

Summary: This Router Has Been a Life-Saver
Comment: I have had no luck with routers over the past couple of years. But this Netgear WGR614, version 7, has worked like a charm so far. Initially, I had problems setting up this router. But when I used the CD that Netgear included in the router package, it took only 15 minutes to configure everything properly. I am using Vista Ultimate on my Dell 1705 and 1520 laptops. One of my laptops is connected via ethernet and the other laptop and my printer (HP 6980) are connected wirelessly. The speed and range of this router are excellent. Moreover, when I stream video wirelessly, the router does not reset itself. This was a problem I had with other wireless g routers. I put in a 26 bit encrypted wep key and disabled SSID broadcasting. All of this is very easy to do as long as the set up and all changes are done on the computer connected via the ethernet. Netgear even places a wireless router icon on the desktop.

I recommend this router highly and only hope it continues to perform the way it has over the past 2 weeks.

Editorial Reviews:

Netgear WGR614 802.11g Wireless Router with 4-Port Switch - The amount of homes with high-speed Internet access and multiple computers is growing steadily. Wouldn't it be nice to share that high-speed Internet connection with all of the computers in your home? Wouldn't it be great to also share files between your computers? And wouldn't it be amazing if you could do all of that wirelessly!? Well you can, with this 802.11g Wireless Router. Just add optional 802.11g, or 802.11b, adapters to each computer, connect your modem, run through the easy installation process, and you're ready to go. It even supports the slower 802.11b wireless protocol for increased compatibility. VPN pass-through
