Summary: fun game -- poor box design
Comment: This is a fun game. After only one play, I was hooked enough to decide to add it to my game collection. It's not super difficult to grasp, but the more you play the more strategy you can put into it. The biggest game-play drawback is the limitation on the number of players (at least 3, and I've heard it's not as good with only 3, and a max of 5).

The game pieces are pretty durable, but the quality/design of the box is poor. One corner of my box came apart the first time I opened it, and another corner was on the verge of coming apart. I just went ahead and reinforced all the corners with clear dict tape.

The box tray also has poorly designed slots for the tiles. The tiles slide all over the place, so you have to sort them out before play each time. With all players helping, this doesn't take long, but it would have been nice to have better slots. A cloth bag is provided for the wooden pegs and camels, and I keep my tiles in a bag as well instead of in the slots.

Overall, a fun game, though, and the design failures don't affect game play.

Editorial Reviews:

In Desert Oasis, designed by Alan Moon, you are the head of a Mongolian family, intent on becoming the most powerful in the land. Use your resources wisely to take control of fertile steppe lands to raise horses, which will bring prestige and honor. Build Ovoos to pour the blessings of luck into your life. Raise camels to build wealth. Control the beautiful oases to improve the quality of life for you and your family. The player with the most points at the end of the game will be anointed the Noble of the Oasis. It is for 3-5 players and takes about 30 minutes to play.
