Summary: Slow, bad routing
Comment: First, the good: Large, bright and crisp display. I like how it's easy to toggle between 3D and Track Up views, and easy to toggle Night Mode on/off. The lifetime free traffic data is a good bonus. But...
It's a good thing that it's easy to toggle Night Mode because this unit does not do so automatically (like a Garmin does). The bright screen is too bright at night, the backlighting doesn't dim enough, it's actually bright enough even with the light all the way down as far as it will go to ruin my night vision. I had to velcro a photographic lighting gel over it to reduce the brightness to where it was usable at night. The touch screen pretty much requires the use of a stylus, because when using a finger, it gets "confused" as to where I'm poking it, which causes something other than what I'm poking to be selected.
The "Reality View" is useless. Aside from the fact that it's in no way "real", it's a static image meaning when it's on, it's not showing you where you are.
For a wide screen display, it should be putting more of the secondary info bits on the sides, not along the top or bottom where it obscures or compresses the map almost to the point of unusability.
The info bit that shows you your current speed is way to small to be usable.
It stores all of its map data on an SD card, which contributes to the overall slowness of the thing to load and calculate routes.
You can store addresses/favorites, but not any database of custom POIs.
The built-in POI database is impossible to use, partly because of the overall slowness of the unit in reading and searching its data, and partly because its organization appears to be random. I eventually gave up trying to find any stores with it, instead using Google Maps to locate a store address and then manually entering the address into the Navigon.
And, the final fatal flaw: Bad routing. It has the same map data as Garmin, Google, Magellin, and others (NavTeq), but their routing alogrythms are junk. The final straw for me was when it routed me to turn right out of my driveway, go a mile up the road, cloverleaf around the highway and come back down my street PAST MY HOME, and keep going, when it could have routed me to just turn left out of my driveway.
Get a Garmin. You'll pay more for it, but you'll be happier with the better product.

Summary: Awesome GPS Navigator
Comment: This model offers high performance at a reasonable price. Great Satellite reception even on a cloudy day. The vehicle I used in had metalized heat reflective windshild and this units built-in antenna had no problem with reception where other types of GPS models had trouble finding positioning satellites. I did'nt experince drop outs or losing position even while driving though bridges. However, an external antenna port is available.
The unit provides realtime directions on a sharp, bright, color wide touch screen display, easy to read and use. This model makes driving on a freeway with multiple lanes and ramps easy to follow. Display updates quickly with freeway overhead signs. If you miss a turn the unit will recalculate direction in real time. Voice directions are clear. This model does not require you to plug into a lighter port making this very portable. The built-in battery lasts 4 hours before requiring a recharge. Rugged lightweight case with chrome edging. Disply provides speed, altitude , ETA, read out. A great feature of this unit is the real time traffic updates, this feature allows you to recalculate alternate routes if required. I travel through metropolitan routes and my experience is it does fairly good job, but traffic information updates may lag in reporting. This feature is provided at no additional subcription charge. Unit provides 3d, 2d views, find point of interest and find address. A unique feature of this unit is icons of gas stations, resturants etc... and city scapes on the display.

Overall: Google Maps and Mapquest provide better routing. Navigon tends to make you get off a highway, detour through town, then get back on the highway again. If you already know where you're going, you won't follow its instructions. If you don't know where you're going, it will eventually get you to your destination, but you'll wonder why it chose the route it did.
Battery life is only about 30 minutes on a full charge, even after following tech support's bizarre instructions for several cycles of charging the battery. (Apparently turning the unit off isn't enough... you are supposed to hold the power button down for 10 seconds every time you shut it off. Gee, that's a great design!)
But it really comes down to poor navigation performance. I would not recommend Navigon to a friend, nor would I buy another.

Summary: Extreme Disappointment
Comment: I don't even know where to begin with how unsatisfied I was with this product. Gave it one week prior to returning it. Impossible to enter data- very small keys and hard to touch. Inaccurate directions, very slow, terrible speaker, etc. etc, etc. Steer clear of this GPS unit.

Summary: Nice Stylish Unit, Too Slow Mount Breaks
Comment: Unit looks better than any other unit, however, navi is slow and sluggish, it is not sensitive to the touch at all, u have to use your nails or else you'll never get it. I find myself pressing buttons a couple of times before it process it.
The free traffic is okay. I turned the device to not use tolls and U turns but it does it anyway. Whats that setting do if it does it anyway? It routes me the worst way possible for some trips.
The mount is garbage, it breaks all the time, i'm on my 3rd one! Navigon keeps replacing it free though.
It is a sleek stylish system with many features, reality view is okay but not always accurate.

In the U.S., German-based Navigon may be the biggest name in gps you've never heard. Navigon has long been a major provider of navigation software to automotive manufacturers for in-dash gps navigation devices, but only recently did they introduce portable navigation devices under their own name. It's the kind of device you'd expect an international spy to have in their rocket car. It's less than an inch thick, and its shiny black casing will go well with just about any car interior. When you stop ogling the outside and really start using the 7100, what you notice is that Navigon has decided to avoid media support and instead has focused on navigation-based features. This means the 7100 is packed, offering an array of features that are, at the time of this writing, unmatched at this price point. It provides you with turn-by-turn directions, including actual road names via text-to-speech. It includes built-in Bluetooth technology that enables hands-free mobile phone integration, which not only increases driver safety, but is fast becoming a necessity as states pass laws against talking on a cell phone hand set while driving. It warns you when you are exceeding the speed limit. It offers 2D and 3D map views with incredibly precise road visualizations (more on that below). Its Navteq data contains millions Points of Interest (POIs) such as restaurants, hotels, golf courses, gas stations, banks, etc.
