Summary: Powerful Little White Box
Comment: I bought the AirPort Extreme Base Station just as a way to create a wireless home network. I ended up replacing my current wireless router with the base station because the signal was about 5 times stronger.

Summary: Great Time Capsule Alternative
Comment: I was currently running a couple of AP expresses for my network as well as a 4 port switch, this thing has made an excellent addition to my network. Right now I have two printers and two external hard drives hooked up to this thing using a powered USB hub. I have two macs that are using the HDDs as time capsules for wireless backup as well as a Wii, Xbox and 360, PS3, iTouch, iPhone and a couple other wireless devices, this thing handles them all.

+ Ease of use is would makes this thing so great, lots of plug and play things with not too much network knowledge needed
+ Time Capsule support!
+ A USB hub makes it support multiple drives/printers
+ Can be easily extended with an APEXP
+ Easily the nicest looking piece of networking equipment on the planet
+ Single LED light is very easy to understand and acts the same as an APEXP
+ 802.11n

- No Airtunes support
- Power cable is waaay too long, possible 12ft with 6ft of cable on each side of the brick
- A three port hub, WTF?
- No Airtunes, I really love this feature

Summary: Wireless N + Gigabit created by Apple = win.
Comment: Specs on this product are amazing...wireless N and Gigabit ethernet connections plus platform independent access to any USB device (I use a USB hard drive) all from one router?. Nice.

After many years with Linksys, D-Link and Netgear routers all failing miserably, terrible configuration and performance followed suit (even used the top 3rd party firmware providers as a last resort on those).

Switched to the Airport Extreme Base Station and setup for multiple computers was a breeze, wireless N is working flawlessly, no clumsy setup required--it just works. But that is typical behavior of an Apple product.

Summary: You might need an ethernet cable
Comment: I have no idea if this works yet because they weren't kidding in the tiny-print-description on the box "cables sold separately".

This is the first router I've purchased that does not have an ethernet cable included, and you'd think for the money they're charging they'd throw one in, just like everybody else. You'll get the router itself, an install CD, instruction booklet, and power cord. But if you're like me and have a wired desktop as part of this set up, you'll need an ethernet cable in addition to the one connected to your cable or dsl modem. It's New Year's Eve, so it looks like it will be a couple of days before I can even set this thing up. Disappointing, but I shouldn't have assumed this router would be the same as others I've purchased.

Editorial Reviews:
