Summary: Replacement laser printer
Comment: The printer worked fine and was a cinch to install. Time will tell how well it holds up to light home use. My previous Samsung printer was also good until it c&^%$#-out.

Summary: So far, so good
Comment: I just bought an HP P1505 yesterday and hooked it up to my Lenovo T61 notebook. The install was a bit time consuming, I thought & requires both a CD/ROM & an internet hookup. Par for the course, these days, I guess. But all went well and the first time I tried to print a doc from the internet, it happened & there were no glitches.

There is no paper manual supplied; the manual is on the CD/ROM.

I have not yet tried to print a range of pages from a WordPerfect .doc (I don't have Word).

I bought this from a Canadian electronics big box store in Vancouver for about HALF the USA Amazon price (doorcrasher?) so they tried to upsell me their overpriced USB cable, paper, & replacement cartridge without success. They let me walk out the door with just the printer.

I haven't used a laser for a while except on a network so I was amazed at how FAST it is!

I would have given it five stars except I have not yet tried out with WordPerfect yet.

Summary: Do NOT buy this printer to use with a Mac, unless you're in the market for a lot of frustration!
Comment: HP claims this printer is compatible with Mac OSX. Don't believe it. There are major problems printing from Word on a Mac, a problem of which HP is fully aware but claims that downloading the latest version of the driver from their website will fix it. In my recent and very frustrating experience (3 calls so far to HP Tech Support), it does not. My Laserjet is still not performing consistently (sometimes it prints, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes it print horizontal lines instead of text), &, having exhausted all the "fixes" HP is able to provide, I'm about to ship it back to Amazon.

Summary: This is an excellent printer when used as it is intended
Comment: Every year we rotate out about 250 printers of a total around 700 printers. That means we are on a three year rotation schedule. The batch going out this year is some pitiful Brother printers that are only one and one-half to two years old. The ones we are keeping past their rotation time are some HP1012 and 1022 printers that have performed flawlessly. Their replacements are these 1505s.

These printers are simply well-suited to their jobs. They are shared at every installation where we use them. They have been fault free so far and most likely will be if they mirror our experience over the last 20 years with HP printers. They are not network printers or meant for heavy production use. For that you have to expect to spend a few more dollars.

Based on our experience here with these printers I bought one for home and it is performing flawlessly.

I would recommend this printer to anyone who needs an everyday, reliable, easy on the combustibles printer.

Summary: Printer Sharing issue - Major flaw.
Comment: We've installed two of these printers on a network over a 2003 Server. Problem is, once the printer is shared and a test page is sent to the printer, the printer itself becomes Unshared after. Weird. This is documented on many forums and HP's only response is that this printer is not designed to be used for printer sharing. That is pure BS. This is a network printer. I believe HP put this design flaw in to make if appear to be a lower class printer. To resolve this, do not have users use the Print Test Page feature in printer properties and all will be ok. Another good design flaw (but possibly intended) from our good friends at HP.

Editorial Reviews:

With features never before available in a personal HP LaserJet, the P1505 series is ideal for producing effective business communications. Be more productive with professional print speeds up to 24 pages per minute (ppm) and a quick first page out. Other printers need time to warm up before printing the first page, but with no-wait Instant-on Technology your first page will print in half the time. The spherically shaped toner is specially designed for consistent, high-quality results at fast speeds. Get excellent desktop performance, quality, and durability, plus many of the same timesaving features as HP's robust workgroup and departmental LaserJet. It's all in the improved design of the all-in-one print cartridge and new toner formula. This printer comes with basic integrated networking capability so you can quickly and easily connect as many as five users. The 250-sheet adjustable main tray provides ample paper volume for an individual or small work team. 266 MHz Processor Memory - 2 MB embedded in SIP package, 16k Bit NVRAM Recommended monthly volume - 250 to 2,000 pages per month Maximum monthly duty cycle - Up to 8,000 pages Languages Host-based Fonts - 26 scalable fonts built-in Input - 250-sheet adjustable main tray, 10-sheet priority feed tray Output - 150-sheet output bin Max Weight - 16 to 43 pounds bond (60 to 163 g/m2) Paper Types - (laser, plain, photo, rough, vellum, archive), envelopes, labels, cardstock, transparencies Interface - Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port Operating Systems - Windows 2000, XP Home, XP Professional, XP Professional x64, Windows Server 2003 (32/64 bit), Vista, Mac OS X v10.2.8, v10.3, v10.4 Linux, Unix or higher Dimensions - Width 14.9 x Depth 9.6 x Height 8.9 (379x243x225mm) Weight - 12.9 pounds (5.9 kg) without toner cartridge
